What Is Shepherd's Pie
Shepherd's pie is a recipe that originated in the Ireland. I won't bore you with the history of it, but it's a classic recipe that dates way back to the 18th century!
Also called cottage pie - that is the actually the official name of this dish - it's usually made with lamb, mixed with a gravy, and topped with mashed potatoes and baked to perfection. We call it Shepard’s Pie even though we use ground beef because that’s how I learned it and it seems that the majority of American’s do as well.
The Easiest Recipe for Shepherd's Pie
The Easiest Recipe for Shepherd's Pie is really good, and as the title suggests, it is very easy to make! The ground beef had a lot of flavor and I think would be fine to use those flavors for ground lamb or even ground turkey if you wanted a little healthier version of Shepherd's Pie.
You can even sprinkle cheddar cheese on the top of the creamy mashed potatoes before putting this dish into the oven, and it will turn out nice and crispy!
If you're a fan of easy casserole recipes, then make gluten-free chicken pot pie next. It's made with chicken, veggies, gravy, and topped with a buttery crust.
I like to add a layer of cheddar cheese over the ground beef - in between the meat and the veggies - for a little fun twist sometimes! Cheese just makes everything better, doesn't it?
That is my daughter Angeline's favorite way for me to make it, but then again, she prefers that I add cheese to everything! I can't complain, because I love making a Cheesy Easy Shepherd's Pie too!

Daniel says
Shepherds Pie has lamb. Not beef. The beef variety is called Cottage Pie or Farmers Pie. The Shepherds herded the sheep. Hence the name. Besides that...not a bad recipe.
