Tips
- Preheat the oil in the Dutch oven and sear the chops on medium-high heat for a good crust.
- Only cook the chops long enough to sear them. The real cooking happens in the oven.
- Flip the chops once when searing. Flipping often decreases the heat of the Dutch oven, and the chops won't sear well.

Dutch Oven Pork Chops FAQ
Why are Dutch ovens good for cooking?
Dutch ovens are typically made with cast iron and coated in enamel. They can be heated to incredibly high temperatures and hold the heat, making them perfect for searing and sauteing. They're oven safe, as well, so they're incredibly versatile.
Are Dutch ovens worth it?
Dutch ovens are an excellent investment because of their versatility. You can use them for searing, sauteing, boiling, baking, deep-frying, and more.
Why didn't my pork chops get a good sear?
If you don't get the Dutch oven hot enough or you flip your chops frequently, they won't sear well. Without a good sear on the outside, the juices will seep out of the chops while they cook.
How do you sear properly?
Preheat the oil in your Dutch oven over medium-high heat until it the oil begins to smoke. Then, add the meat and let it sit for 2 to 3 minutes. Gently lift the meat enough to check for a good crust. If you have it, flip and sear the other side.
