I spent the majority of today baking. I recently became obsessed with a new book, Confections of a Closet Master Baker, by Gesine Bullock Prado...and I've been attempting to recreate some of the most tempting recipes.
Today I made a four layer vanilla cake with lemon curd filling and icing. I also made lemon cranberry scones. Now, I usually like sweet or chocolate baked goods. So, I thought this would be a nice change of pace, and give me something new to bring to my Mother's Day weekend getaway with my mother, grandmother, great-aunt and sisters.
The scones turned out wonderfully. They taste of a faint lemon flavor and the cranberries are a really nice alternative to chocolate chips. I had to call my mom and grandmother over to taste test them for me! The vanilla cake with lemon curd tasted great but doesn't look so appetizing. I'm going to have to pass on posting a photo, and retry my baking techniques at a later time!
In the meantime, here is a photo of my scones!
