What Are Scones?
The definition of scones changes based on where you're from. In America, scones are typically shaped like triangles and taste either sweet or savory. They are usually crumbly and served at breakfast.
In the UK, scones look and taste like what we Americans call biscuits. They are usually served with clotted cream, jam, or marmalade and served at tea time.
I've made a few different types of scones before, but these caramel apple ones are my favorites! Chocolate cherry scones and lemon cranberry scones are really popular recipes too.
Why You'll Love Apple Scones
These healthy apple scones are made with whole ingredients and are easy to customize to fit your dietary needs. For example, if you need to cut back on salt, just leave the salt off the topping.
They make a perfect fall breakfast scones recipe and save for a long time so that you can enjoy them any time of year! In fact, leave out the caramel and add some cinnamon to make delicious cinnamon apple scones. The options are endless!
These breakfast scones are so delicious and easy to make that you will be tempted to make them for every special Breakfast and Brunch. Make them for bridal showers, Mother's Day, Father's Day, or just because you're craving a salted caramel recipe.
This easy scones recipe results in scones that are not overly sweet. The caramel sauce does add some sweetness, but it's not too much - it is just enough that it compliments the scone well.
They taste delicious with blueberry lemon muffins - another breakfast pastry that is also lightly sweet. Or serve them with a cup of homemade dalgona coffee - talk about a treat!

Apple Scones Recipe Steps
Here are some pictures showing you how I made this recipe.
Preheat oven to 400. Add both types of flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a bowl and mix well.
Use a pastry blender to cut butter into coarse crumbs.
In a separate small bowl, combine half and half, egg and vanilla and whisk well.
Add to dry mixture and mix until just combined.
Fold in apples.
Place dough onto a floured surface and knead ten times. The dough may be a little sticky, so add additional flour to knead.
Shape into a 5" circle about ½" thick. Cut into four triangles and place onto an ungreased baking sheet.
Bake for 15-20 minutes.
Cool until warm, and drizzle with caramel topping and sea salt.
