This Dutch Oven Chili recipe is an Easy Casserole dinner, and is the perfect One Pot Dinner for Family Dinners! Loaded with meat, beans, garlic, and zesty seasonings, our Dutch Oven Chili is a meal that satisfies even the biggest eaters!

Why We Love This Dutch Oven Chili

I love making this Dutch Oven Chili recipe because it's full of flavor, but it's not hot. Even kids will like it, which makes it a great family-friendly meal.

Chili is just such classic comfort food. No matter where you live, you've probably had chili of some sort. I grew up with my mom making chili in a big pot with sliced onions, red and green peppers and that famous Chili-O seasoning packet from Publix. It became one of our family's favorite go-to meals, and all of my sisters and I - even my daughter - have our own versions that we have made over the years!

This Dutch Oven Chili was inspired by our Slow Cooker Chunky Chicken Chili and goes well with our Paula Deen Corn Casserole as a side! You can also make our Slow Cooker Mac and Cheese and turn this into a Chili Mac!

    Substitutions and Variations

    • Use ground turkey, a ground beef and pork mix, or chorizo in this chili.

Top Tips for Making the Best Dutch Oven Chili

    • Drain your meat after cooking it to avoid a greasy chili.

    Common Questions about Chili

    What is chili?

Chili is a spicy stew made with ground beef, tomatoes, beans, garlic, onions, and seasonings.

How long should I cook my chili?

Chili should be cooked for at least one hour, but it can be cooked for up to three hours on a lower temperature - think "simmering."

    Why was my chili bland?

One major reason chili can be bland is using old spices. The older spices are, the less potent their flavor. If you use old, stale spices, your chili will taste flat. Always make sure to check the expiration date of your seasonings and spices!
