Directions for making this Cake Mix Chocolate Chip Santa Cookies Recipe:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
While your oven is preheating, combine the white cake mix, egg whites, all purpose flour and vegetable oil, and make sure that you have mixed it all together really well.
Now, add in the ¾ cup of chocolate chips and the holiday sprinkles.
Make sure that you are mixing these add-ins by hand, as using an electric mixer will break things apart will kind of run the desired effect once they are baked.
Now you are going to scoop about a tablespoon's worth of cookie dough and then roll the cookie dough into 1-2" size balls and place each cookie dough ball 2-3" a part on your baking sheets.
Gently press down on the cookie dough balls - we don't want them to be completely flat, but don't leave them as a ball! They should be about ½ inch thick.
Now place a few extra chocolate chips and sprinkles on top of each cookie dough so that they bake up nice and pretty!
Place your baking sheet in the oven and bake these cake mix cookies for about 8-10 minutes.
TOP TIP FOR MAKING THESE CAKE MIX COOKIES
Do not over bake these cake mix cookies!
They do not turn golden brown because remember, we didn't use any brown sugar! They are going to look like they're not "done" because they are a light color. This is the intended result we are looking for!
Let your cookies sit for at least 2-3 minutes before removing them from the baking sheet!
This Cake Mix Cookies Recipe for Christmas makes approximately 2 dozen cookies.

good luck!!

Have you tried making these like bars instead of individual cookies?
kayla Bird says
Can I make the dough ahead of time like 2 days before baking? If so, should I freeze it or put it in the fridge?
Jenn says
Yes! Just keep it in the fridge - I don't have personal experience with freezing it, but you can keep most dough in the fridge for a day or two before baking. Just let it thaw to room temperature before baking!
Diana Moore says
I made these and they turned out so delicious. The only thing I did different was use red and green mini M&Ms instead of the chocolate chips and holiday sprinkles. Thank you for a great and simple recipe. 🙂
My Quirky Creation says
Wow! They look just to good to be eaten!!
Christa Crossman says
I can’t see what the difference would be really. The dough is a base what you add to it is up to you 😉
Do these freeze well?
Jenn says
I personally didn't try freezing them, but I've frozen cookies with a similar recipe and they were fine once they defrosted!
Karen says
Can white chocolate chips be used instead of chocolate?
Thank you!
Danielle Crossman says
Can i use a different flavor cake like chocolate?
Kristi Kelly says
You can make Cake Mix Cookies with any box mix. I like Spice Cake mix with Heath Toffee Chips thrown in. Also I do Lemon Cake Mix with Lemon Icing (lemon juice and powdered sugar). You can be creative with Yellow Cake Mix or Chocolate Mixes. Just DO NOT overbake.
SEAN says
Hello, I know the American conversion can be confusing. Im a Canadian so I have experiance lol.
C refers to a cup so ie 1/2C = 1/2 cup
350 is in F so its 175 Celsius
White cake mix is just a box of ready to make cake mix found in the baking isle of a grocery store. Hope this helps
Jeff says
These didn’t work out for me. But I think I might have followed the directions on the cake mix box instead of this recipe. The cake mix called for water to be added and so my batter was very runny. Why 1 TBS of flour? That’s so odd.
Anyways I thickened the mix with about a cup or two of flour but now the cookies taste like biscuits.
Jenn says
Oh no! I am sorry to hear that - yes, you can't follow the directions on the cake mix box, use these instructions instead! We just use the box mix as a base for our recipe.
Kmstew says
Made these cookies and they are amazing!! How long do they stay good after baking?
Jenn says
thank you! In my experience, up to a week (7 days). You can also freeze them and then defrost later!
DEBBIE says
What brand cake mix did you use?
Jenn says
I use whatever is on sale at my local grocery store - usually Betty Crocker! It's been a while since I did this recipe, so I can't remember - but it was probably Betty Crocker or Duncan Hines.
Millie says
Good morning,
If I use a different box cake mix, do I use the whole eggs or keep to the egg whites only?
Jenn says
It should not make a difference which brand of cake mix you use - just use the egg whites. Let me know how it turns out!
Linda Smith says
These were way too rich for our taste. The kids seem to like them better than adults. I did buy one box of cake mix w/pudding in it and those turned out better than those without - more plump of a cookie. Overall, I think we will stick to sugar cookies next time around.
Jenn says
Thank you for the feedback!
Waqas says
What type of oil do you recommend using?
Waqas says
and Cookies made from a cake mix are usually mealy! How about adapting a normal chocolate chip cookie recipe for this!?!
Jenn says
You can certainly try it!
Ashley says
Egg whites? Can you use 2 regular eggs? Or does it have to be without the yolk?
Jenn says
It has to be egg whites only.
Chelsea says
Wonderful Christmas cookies! I made these this past weekend with my 6 year old. We swapped out the Christmas sprinkles for Christmas m&ms. They were super simple to make and tasty! My little one is already asking when we can make them again. Thank you for sharing!
Rare says
More like a question...Umm this might be a stupid question but are you mixing the cake and the cookie dough together or just using cookie dough as like a crust form for the cake?
Jamie says
So do you mix the cake mix and then mix that in with the flour and other ingredients? Or mix the dry cake mix in with the other ingredients?
Nina says
Can gluten free cake mix be usef
Brynn Clark says
These cookies were soo good and very easy to make!
Brittany says
What are the calories on these?
Jenn says
I do not provide calorie counts for my recipes, sorry!
Jenn says
No, you mix all ingredients together at once! You are not following the directions on the box of cake mix, you are following my directions here.

This is such a cute idea! What a fun Christmas cookie to make with kids!
Vanessa says
Thanks for sharing! How far ahead of time can I make them?
Jenn says
Just like most cookies, these will be good for a few days, then start to get hard. I'd say 3 days max for "fresh" cookies!
Barbara montez says
I made these yummy cookies my family loved them thank you . Can you make a Christmas sugar with this recipe instead of adding chocolate chips?
Taylor says
If I use eggs whites from a carton, how much should I use?
Ray says
These cookies are fabulous!!!! They are very versatile. I used the exact recipe and then did another batch with reeses pieces. Great recipe!!!!
Jenn says
Check the carton, they will tell you the ratio! 🙂
Jenn says
You know what, I am going to this weekend! That's a great idea, thank you for the suggestion!
Mignon says
I use a lemon cake mix and cool whip and just one egg. Only half of a small carton of cool whip. Roll in powdered sugar and bake at 350 for only a few minutes. So good they are called Lemonwhippersnaps! Everyone loves them!
EJ says
Whoops! I used the whole egg. Hopefully they turn out! Baking as I speak! 🤷🏻♀️
Jenn says
How did they turn out?
Jenn says
That sounds delicious!
Aula says
Followed directions as shown. It was a batter, no where near dough consistency so I had to keep adding flour.... then stirring the chocolate chips just turned the dough gray 🤷🏼♀️Tasty but ugly!
Jenn says
Oh wow! I wonder what happened?
cheyenne says
hi im new and i like the cookies it makes me feel hungry and thank you!
cheyenne says
but to bad i cant make it my mom have to
cheyenne says
i like that you posted this but i want one so bad!
Anita Storgard says
When I made these they disappeared in about 3 days. LOL
Rockwood says
I didn’t care for how these turned out. They taste very cake like and not much like a cookie. Also, the dough was incredibly oily! It was difficult to get the balls to form. I followed your recipe to a T so I’m not sure why I had such bad luck. Unless you’re looking for a super sweet cookies recipe, I don’t recommend these. Try regular chocolate chip dough, hold the yolks, add sprinkles.
Beth says
Delish! I used dairy free chocolate chips and these were perfect for my daughter with food allergies!
Jenn says
I am so happy that you liked them!
Camron H says
These were absolutely amazing!! My entire family loved them, and are now my go to cookie. So easy and quick to make. Highly recommend this recipe!
Lisa says
These were delicious, pretty, and so easy to make. I am going to try adding almond extract to my next batch too. Thanks for an amazing, easy, festive recipe!
Alizabeth Holborn says
Do you use semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips?
Jenn says
You can use either, whichever you prefer. 🙂

I have made variations on this cookie recipe for several years now and they are always a big hit with my guests. And, so pretty as well. I had never made them with two egg whites though (one whole egg, one whole egg plus one egg white, two whole eggs - yes). As one commenter noted, the dough was somewhat oily which was a surprise considering the extra flour was added. I am wondering if we both had cake mixes with the new lower weight. I still thought the cookies turned out very well. I added a half teaspoon of vanilla extract and an eighth teaspoon of almond extract to get rid of the "cake mix taste". I like the mini chocolate chips for this cookie. I use a small scoop and do not press on the dough after placing on the cookie sheet. Nine minutes baking time and two or three more minutes to cool before I roll the tops in confectioner's sugar. Just delish. Going to use your recipe from now on!
Sue says
This is an incredible cookie recipe. Hubby LOVEs them as does everyone who has tried them!
