Your health and that of every member of your family is important to you. While there are some things that you inherit and be predisposed to, for the most part, you are in control of your health and overall wellness. The same goes for your pet, it's up to you to provide a well-balanced diet consisting of a natural pet food and get them plenty of exercise so that they remain strong, active and healthy. Let's look at a few examples of things you can do to improve your family's health.

    Indoor Air Quality

Most people pay very little attention to the air inside their home. However, the presence of common pollutants like smoke, pet hair and dander, and mold can cause flu-like symptoms and spark allergic reactions for some of your family members. Thankfully, there are things you can do to improve indoor air quality. Make sure that you change your HVAC filters per the manufacturer's recommendation. Also, adding an air purifier will help to remove allergens and pollutants so that the air you breathe in is cleaner.

If someone in your home is a smoker, it's essential that they smoke outdoors and if you have pets make sure to bathe them regularly. Plants are another great way to improve your indoor air quality and as an added bonusthey also look good and add character to any room.

    Healthy Eating

Working full time and raising children can cause you to make fast-food an option for meals, especially at dinner time way too frequently. Instead of adding an abundance of fatty foods and processed sugars to the family diet, plan meals ahead of time that take less than 30 minutes to prepare. You can also cook things like casseroles on the weekend and then freeze them so that they are pre-cooked and ready for you during the week.

Snacks like potato chips and candy may taste good, however, they provide very little nourishment to the body. Instead, fill your cupboards with unsalted nuts, dried fruits, and whole-grain crackers. In the fridge keep fresh fruits and vegetables, unprocessed cheese, yogurt, and hummus.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so it's important to make sure that you include foods like eggs, oatmeal, and fresh fruit to give every member of your family a good start to each day. When you cook or use baking mixes, a few simple changes will also improve your family's health. For example, instead of using vegetable oil replace it with organically sourced coconut oil from Bandless or virgin olive oil, and try natural flours like the ones from Bob's Red Mill, to avoid additives.

    Activities

Everyone these days seems to have some type of electronics in their hands at all times. The problem is that while they are talking or playing games on their devices, they aren't really moving. Exercise is an essential component in maintaining not only lean muscles and a healthy weight, but also healthy organs, a sharp mind and improved mental health.

Luckily, you can turn things around rather quickly by engaging in family activities that get every member of your family up and moving. Take a bike ride, swim, play a game of catch outdoors, go on a camping trip, or enjoy long walks together. The quality time spent together as a family will keep every member fit while also building a strong and sound relationship.

Many people take their health for granted, that is until something happens like a seemingly sudden illness. The good news is that you can promote a healthier lifestyle by making just a few simple changes that will have long-lasting benefits to the health and well-being of every member of your family.
