Reducing our carbon footprint has become a trend in recent years. More people are seeing the value in taking public transportation, or simply walking to where they need to go. The summer is a great time to explore all energy-efficient options!
There are many transportation choices that are greener than taking the bus and faster than walking! Here are the trendiest ways everyone is getting around this summer.
Hoverboard
Hoverboards used to be a figment of the imagination. The idea was popularized by Back to the Future, and ever since then inventors have been searching for a way of making a skateboard that flies come to life. Today, hoverboards don’t “hover,” but they do automatically move according to which way your weight is distributed on the board.
Owning a self balancing hoverboard has become somewhat of a luxury these days, but nothing beats looking like you’re from the future as you drive it around town. Hoverboards don’t require you to pedal or move your legs, so this is perfect if you want to put in minimal effort.
Skateboard
Skateboarding has existed since the 1950’s, but it came into more popular culture in the early 2000’s. You move by pumping one leg on the ground, while the other balances on the skateboard. It takes practice to learn to balance. Travelling around while also learning a new hobby is a great way to spend this summer!
There are two types of skateboard—the longboard and the shortboard. The longboard is picks up speed, while the shortboard is for learning tricks. Either board will get you to your destination in style, though!
Roller Skates
You don’t need to visit a rink to go skating! There are all kinds of roller skates available, for any size shoe. Many people like to roller skate because it’s just like walking, but faster.
There are two types of roller skates to choose from. Inline skates have one row of wheels and are great for picking up speed - and you can even find pairs for kids available online. There are also quads, which have four wheels, like wheels on a car. Either type of skate will get you zooming around your town in no time.
Scooter
Though you’ll mostly see kids with scooters these days, more adults are riding them than ever before. Kick scooters are often inexpensive and foldable, so you can carry it with you in a store or at home. Electric scooters may use gas or a battery to move. Either style will get you there faster than walking or running ever will.
Bicycle
This list wouldn’t be complete without the classic way to travel—a bicycle! They come in all different sizes, colors, and types for any occasion. Whether you need to bike on rough terrain, or on a flat road, there is a bicycle that can get you anywhere. It’s also a great way to tone those legs to look perfect out on the beach this summer.
Bikes are easy to buy. They’re even easier to rent, if you have no place to store it. Try borrowing a bicycle on your next vacation, or renting one for the whole year!
Which Will You Try?
Having your own car isn’t the only way to travel. More people are switching to eco-friendly options for their decreased damage on the environment. Choices like roller skates and bikes also help people exercise and stay outside for longer in the summer heat.
Whatever method you choose to get around is sure to be less expensive than a car or public transport. More importantly, it is way more fun than taking the bus!
