This Oreo Mug Cake is an easy microwave dessert recipe for one that will have you hooked after the first bite! Rich, fudgy, and loaded with classic Oreo flavor, this is truly a single serving cake in a mug with all the classic texture we love in traditional cakes.

Why I Love this Oreo Mug Cake

First and foremost, this is an actual cake. It has exactly the texture of a traditional cake, it's just made in a mug. I cannot say that about many of the mug cakes I've had in the past.

This is an easy recipe, too, which I love. I'm a fan of home-cooked dishes, but I'm not a fan of the time that most of them take. This one is ready in a flash.

One of my favorite things about this mug cake is that it's a single serving. I can literally whip this up whenever I feel like it, and there are no leftovers.

    Oreo Mug Cake

I've always been skeptical of mug cakes and Instant Pot cakes. Call me old-fashioned, but I've always thought a cake should be made in the oven. I decided to give this recipe a try because I love Oreos, and I was immediately in love. It's literally a cake in a mug!

    Substitutions and Variations

    • Add a dash of instant coffee for deeper chocolate flavor.
    • Try using Dutch cocoa for a smoother chocolate flavor.
    • Omit the cocoa, add a bit of vanilla, and use Blond Oreos for a tasty twist.

Tips for Making the Best Oreo Mug Cake

    • Spoon your flour loosely into the measuring cup and level it off with a knife. This ensures proper measuring.
    • Use fresh baking powder so the cake rises.
    • A rolling pin is the easiest way to crush your Oreos.
    • Be sure to scrape down the sides and bottom of your mug when mixing to ensure everything is thoroughly mixed.
    • Mix your ingredients until just combined for the best cake texture.
    • Be sure you submerge your Oreo cookie completely in the batter for the full effect.
    • Let the mug cake cool for a few minutes after microwaving it. This allows it to finish cooking and keeps it from burning your mouth!

    Oreo Mug Cake FAQ

    What is a mug cake?

A mug cake is a single-serve variation of cake that uses cake ingredients mixed in a mug and then microwaved.

Why was my mug cake rubbery?

If you overmix your batter, you'll create extra gluten in the cake batter. When microwaved, this gluten will cause the cake to become rubbery.

How do you make mug cakes moister?

Try adding just a touch of water to the top of the batter. It evaporates in the microwave, keeping the cake moist and tender without making the batter watery or the cake thin.
