Top Tips For Stuffed Mushrooms
Before you begin chopping up the mushrooms, it is best to clean mushrooms by wiping them gently with a paper towel. You do not want to actually wash them with water because it adds too much moisture to the mushrooms.
Directions for making this Air Fryer Sausage Stuffed Mushrooms Recipe:
Remove the stems from the mushrooms and mince them up finely. Use a spoon to scrap any additional mushroom out of the inside of the mushroom cap and dice that up as well.
Add together the cut up mushrooms pieces, butter, diced onion and minced garlic to a skillet and heat on medium high until onions are tender, about 5 minutes.
Add your sausage and cook for an additional 1 minute and then remove the pan from heat.
Add in the bread crumbs, ½ cup of Mozzarella cheese, grated Parmesan cheese and mix it all together really well.
Season the mixture with salt and pepper and then spoon a bit of the mixture into each mushroom cap. The amount of the mixture will vary depending on the size of your mushrooms.
Preheat your air fryer for five minutes at 320 degrees F. Place the sausage stuffed mushrooms, filled side up, into the air fryer basket.
Heat for 12 minutes at 320 until the cheese on top is golden brown.
Top each mushroom with a little bit of additional Mozzarella cheese and close the air fryer for 2 minutes or until cheese is melted.
Serve your air fryer mushroom caps topped with a bit of chopped fresh parsley.
This recipe for air fried stuffed mushrooms serves 2-3 people, depending on their appetite!
How to Store Leftover Sausage Stuffed Mushrooms

While this is not necessary, you can prebake the mushroom caps (cavity side down) for a few minutes to help them release extra liquid, and you can do this ahead of time to cut down on prep time the day of your gathering.
To reheat any leftovers, place them in the air fryer at 400°F for 4-5 minutes.

I have always stuffed my mushrooms with blue crab. I make a crab imperial and this is what I put in my mushroom caps, broil long enough to slightly brown the top of the crab! Yum, a family favorite!
