ESP stands for Electric Sound Products and is a guitar company that was formed back in 1975 in the Japanese capital of Tokyo. The company initially started off by selling guitar parts, but over time its business model evolved into producing the complete instrument.
However, it was not until the 1980s that the ESP brand really came to prominence, thanks to the adoption of their guitars amongst the thrash metal scene. This saw iconic bands, such as Slayer, Megadeth, and Metallica using their electric guitars.

Why ESP Guitars Are Popular
The main reasons why ESP Japanese Guitars are popular with so many players, especially those within the music industry, is due to the sheer amount of detail, attention, passion, and workmanship that goes into each and every model that the company produces.
Regardless of the price of the individual model, the same amount of detail, attention, and craftsmanship goes into making it. Each guitar is made using only the very best materials and they are strongly constructed so that they can be rocked out on to the max.
For those more experienced players or those who have the budget for it, there is the capability for ESP to produce for you, your very own custom guitars, that comes with all of the precise specifications that are required in order to achieve a certain sound. However, most people tend to go for one of the company’s off the shelf products.
Thanks to the great design of ESP guitars, it means that they are extremely comfortable to play, allowing you to shred as hard as you want or can. This is one reason why this particular brand of electric guitars is so loved by those people who like to play heavy metal music. Some of the biggest names within the music industry to play on an ESP guitar include Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman, Kirk Hammett of Metallica, and Dokken guitarist George Lynch.
Being endorsed by such famous names within the industry is testament to just how good ESP guitars really are and that if they are good enough for some of the biggest bands in the world, then they are definitely good enough for everyone else.
What Is Not So Good About ESP Guitars
Despite ESP being one of the best guitar brands in the world, there are unfortunately some downsides to them. The main one being the price. Even with them now being more affordable than ever, they still remain, for many people, too expensive and not something that they can afford.
Different Series
ESP produces a wide range of different guitars to suit all styles of play and sounds. Some of the company’s most iconic serieses include the custom series, the signature series, LTD guitar series, the E II series and the USA series. These ranges come in at different price brackets and so across these you should be able to find one that you could afford, even if you have to stretch that bit further with your spending or use up more of your savings.
