6 of the Easiest Car Mods to Install as a Novice

Published: Apr 15, 2022 · Modified: Apr 10, 2023 by Jennifer · This post may contain affiliate links · Leave a Comment

Installing new parts in your vehicle usually is best left to an expert. But there are some things you can do yourself, without risking damage, so let's talk about 6 of the Easiest Car Mods to Install as a Novice.

Your car is a complex machine and should be treated as such. So, it's best to familiarize yourself with the mechanisms when starting out.

5 Tips To Boost The Resale Value Of Your Luxury Car

6 of the Easiest Car Mods to Install as a Novice

However, you can get started modding simple things like rims, moving to more complex components later on. Some of the easiest car mods you can install include the following.

Airflow Mods for Power and Efficiency

Airflow is essential for your engine. Clean and cooler air helps make better use of the engine's power and maximizes combustion efficiency. Efficiency uses less fuel and accelerates your vehicle better. One of the best mods for doing this is a cold air intake. These aren't typically sold with your car and are an aftermarket item. A good intake cools the air, providing more oxygen to the combustion chamber for increased power. They are easy to install, make a good substitute for more expensive turbochargers, and require expert assembly.

The Easiest Car Mods are Probably Rims

You might think rims are purely cosmetic, but they aren't. Wheel size impacts car performance in addition to fuel efficiency, ride quality, and noise output. Generally, larger rims tend to decrease performance, but there are other factors as well, such as the weight of the rims you install. You will need a jack for lifting your car and socket wrenches of different sizes to install wheels yourself. You also need a lever for removing the rims, and it's also helpful to get someone to give you a hand when changing rims for safety reasons. Especially if you are inexperienced.

    Anti-Roll for Better Handling

If you want to improve handling, then anti-roll bars are one of the first things you should install. Along with a cold air intake, anti-roll bars significantly improve your vehicle's performance. Roll bars make your car safer by actively distributing the weight properly when cornering. When weight is distributed correctly, you reduce the amount of lean when entering a corner and eliminate any understeer and oversteer. Of course, anti-roll bars aren't really necessary unless you take your car to a track, but they still look fabulous as a cosmetic mod.

Exhaust Headers for Better Use of Power

Your car's exhaust system is crucial because it aids your car's performance and prevents toxic fumes from entering the vehicle. An efficient exhaust aims to eliminate back pressure with freely flowing gasses. Installing an exhaust overhaul is expensive and complex, but you can easily install exhaust headers. Exhaust headers won't do as good a job as an entirely new system, but they will give your car a handy performance boost. They work by reducing the amount of wasted power during each cycle of the exhaust system.

Tires are Also One of the Easiest Car Mods

Tires are one of the most significant parts of your car. Car performance and safety depend significantly on the tread on the tires. Unfortunately, it is one of the most overlooked parts of the vehicle. Over 11,000 incidents each year are caused by poor tire tread, according to the American National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration. So checking your tires is a must for your safety. Improving your tires will also improve the performance of your car. You won't get more power or torque, but handling and braking will dramatically improve your experience.

Cosmetic Car Mods for a Unique Style

Of course, cosmetic modding is trendy these days, thanks to shows like Pimp My Ride. Anything from custom sounds systems to Diode Dynamics and even video game consoles can be installed in a custom job. But you want to take it easy when starting out and if you have little money. Simple cosmetics include headlights caps, mudflaps, and windshield bars. And one of the easiest, cheapest, but best-looking mods you can install on your cars is LED lighting. You put LED strips anywhere, and they look cooler than most things. But once you start modding, it's hard to stop.

    Summary

Modding your car can become an obsession as you learn more and appreciate your ride. It can be as simple as cosmetics like LED lights or as complex as an exhaust overhaul. The car modding scene is alive and well and doesn't take an expert to get started. Some of the easiest and cheapest include cold air intakes, anti-roll bars, and exhaust headers for efficiency. Most of these easily installable mods work to maximize engine efficiency, power and stabilize your car.
