Dominican Republic is such a beautiful country, you will not want to miss out on experiencing all that it has to offer! If you are traveling via a cruise line and have a port of call in La Romana, these will be the top La Romana Beaches Near Cruise Port.
I have been to Dominican Republic about 10 times, I believe. I have traveled to various cruise ports for day visits, as well as spent 4+ days/nights there with "real vacations" as well. I absolutely love the country and it has become one of my very favorite travel destinations in the Caribbean.
People traveling may choose to escape to a warm tropical climate to evade the onslaught of winter weather that they may be facing. Many tourists love to visit the warm sandy beaches to soak up some sun.

La Romana Beaches Near Cruise Port
Playa El Caleton
This is a great beach getaway for those with families. No need to bring beach umbrellas or even lounge chairs. They are available for you to rent for a nominal fee. Fresh seafood and drinks are sold right on the beach by local vendors.
There is no need to leave the beach until it is time for you to retire for the day. Plan on spending the day there.
Playa Caleta
This beach is slightly off of the beaten track. This of course does not mean that you will not enjoy it. Many locals prefer this beach over the others because it does not have that "touristy" feel.
In fact, you may enjoy watching the small fishing boats in the horizon as you relax under your beach umbrella.

Playa La Minitas
Playa La Minitas is one of the more popular beaches in the Dominican Republic. It can only be entered via a resort and therefore, you must be a resort guest or make a purchase in one of the shops in order to gain access to this lovely beach!
However, Playa La Minitas is most definitely a water sport lovers paradise. Rental booths line this beach and a small area is roped off for swimmers.
Bayahibe beach
Bayahibe is one beach that is in very close proximity to La Romano, which we visited as part of a shore excursion with the Carnival Freedom.
Bayahibe Beach is a Blue Flag beach, which means it is part of the Blue Flag Program that works towards sustainable development of beaches and marinas through strict criteria dealing with water quality and environmental education.
Bayahibe Beach is a popular beach that is enjoyed by many when visiting the La Romana cruise ship port because it offers everything you could possibly want in a shore excursion: sun, sand, cocktails, food - it even has a gigantic pool complete with water polo and a swim up bar!
Carnival Cruise Lines offers a Bayahibe Beach Break shore excursion when their ships are in the La Romana cruise port, which is how we experienced this lovely beach! {I received a complimentary excursion but bought tickets for Angeline and her two friends}
Included in the Bayahibe Beach Break is the pool and beach access at the 5 star resort, a welcome coconut drink, beach towel and sun bed, as well as open bar with tropical cocktails and drinks!
Catalina Island
Catalina Island is just across from La Romano, it can be reached by taking a tour boat. Great for snorkeling, swimming, or relaxing on the white pristine beach.

You look so happy holding that coconut drink! Every one of the beaches looks like a true tropical paradise--almost too good to be true. I think I need to ditch the kids & go back to the Dominican Republic.

Are any of these beaches thong friendly for men? I am an American male who enjoys thongs, but have never worn one on a beach, or any other public domain, and want to know if it is okay, acceptable, or frowned upon. I want to be respectful of the culture. If yes, then my second question is do a lot of men wear thongs and or speedos?
Jenn says
Yes, of course! Only Americans don't like butt cheeks. LOL

Had the privilege of visiting La Romana, Bayahibe and Catalina island many time before they were popular tourist destinations and have many happy memories of days spent on the white sand with Dominican family.
Love the way it looks now also and since I have not been for many years I now cannot wait to plan visit.
