On your next vacation to Italy, you may want to think about how you can include some great new experiences into your time there. One such experience that you may not get anywhere else in the world is seeing a classical Italian opera in person, so check out these Tips for Your First Trip to the Opera.

While you may be able to view some performances on television, or in movie remakes, the atmosphere may not be the same as you would find in a traditional venue in Italy. Due to this, you might want to consider a few tips to improve your visit.

Tips for Your First Trip to the Opera

Tips for Your First Trip to the Opera

Get your tickets in Advance to Secure Your Spot

Some operas may be far more popular than others, meaning tickets could sell out quite quickly. If you want to go to a selection of concerts in Rome, it could be a good idea to purchase your tickets, and reserve specific seats, long before you actually go.

This can help to prevent them from running out before you get there, allow you to better budget for the rest of your trip, and even help you to choose seats that are unlikely to be obstructed by the building or scenery.

    Follow etiquette

Much like going to the movie theater, there are a number of etiquette rules you may want to follow when you visit. This can include turning off your cellphone or, at the very least, having it fully on silent and kept in your bag.

With the theme of silence, you should also try not to make noise during the performance. Part of the illusion and wonder of the opera can come with being drawn in by what is going on on stage. That can be ruined by hearing people talking or rustling packets.

If you plan on going with children, you may need to accept that you should vacate your seats if they become upset or disruptive, rather than ruin the performance for others there.

Tips for Your First Trip to the Opera

    Be punctual

Depending on where you go, you may miss out on more than just a few minutes of the show if you are late. Some opera venues around the world have been known to shut their doors before the start of a performance.

Due to this, you may find yourself denied entry, even if you are only just late. You may then have to wait until an interval to be allowed to enter, if at all.

You would also not be likely to receive a refund for this, as getting to the venue on time is your responsibility. To avoid this, it can be important to plan your route accordingly, and leave with plenty of time to spare.

Tips for Your First Trip to the Opera

This way, you can get to the theater and be seated early. It can be far easier to wait in your seat than in a corridor or, worse still, have to leave.

The opera isn’t just for the old or wealthy. Some of the performances can captivate people of all ages, from all walks of life.

When attending, it can be important to show a high level of respect for both the performers and staff, as well as others in attendance.
