The Skinny on My Progress with UltraShape

June was kind of a crazy month for me...for the first time in about two years, I didn't travel at all. My husband asked for a divorce. My husband moved out. I started working with UltraShape on a sponsored post campaign unlike any other that I've participated in during my five years blogging...Three of those things sucked, but one was pretty awesome - can you guess which one? Yep, it's the UltraShape!

I don't really want to remind you of what I looked like before...because I'm trying to forget it myself!! You can read all about my before and WHY I wanted this experience so badly in my first UltraShape post. Long story short: being single at almost 40 is frightening and I want to be hot again. That's a good enough excuse as any, right?

So much has happened in the last few weeks, I think I've run through all of the stages of grief one can possibly experience. My current status reads something like this: ALMOST SINGLE AND SURVIVING JUST FINE. Of course, I still have my sad days, and if I had a time machine, I'd probably rewind it to the day I said "I do" and said, "No thanks." but I'll be okay. Even better than okay.

Back to UltraShape...

I began to see results pretty quickly after the first UltraShape session, though you should keep in mind that I am also dieting and exercising while going through my UltraShape procedures. My UltraShape technician, Sonia, told me that it's always best to couple UltraShape with a healthy diet and active lifestyle, but that you will still see results even if you don't make any efforts aside from the procedure itself. As I am in the middle of a divorce...obviously I want to look (and feel) as great as possible, AS QUICKLY as possible, so I am going full-force with both guns blazing.

It can take up to two weeks before you begin seeing the results of your first UltraShape session, but I noticed after about a week that the fat on my stomach seemed softer and my love handles/muffin top was shrinking quite a bit!

Before I get ahead of myself, let's talk about what the UltraShape procedure actually felt like.

What's UltraShape Like?

The UltraShape procedure is really pretty interesting. While they SAY that it is painless, I didn't really expect it to be painless...but it is! My first appointment involved me being weighed, measured ( my waist measured at 34, by the way), and then taped up like so...

It looks weird, right? Well, it was! The UltraShape technician had me lay down and then she proceeded to tape up all of my fat and flab on my stomach (she included my love handles too!) to optimize the results of my procedure. Once I was all taped up, she covered my belly with a gel and began running the UltraShape head over my target area - my stomach.

I laid there and checked email and Instagram while it was being done and made conversation with the tech about blogging, my impending divorce and what it was like being thrust back into the dating scene after 14 years of marriage. She is divorced herself and even gave me some pointers on how to navigate the single life.

Now, while the session was completely painless, you DO feel something while it's being done; you feel a slight warmth each time the UltraShape machine pulses. I was startled when I first felt it because I didn't expect to feel anything, but she quickly explained that it just meant it was working!

How does UltraShape work?

UltraShape ultrasound energy destroys the walls of fat cells in your body, releasing the fat in the form of triglycerides. The triglycerides are then processed through the liver and eliminated from the body naturally. The surrounding tissue, nerves, and muscle are left unharmed.

After you and your physician determine the exact treatment area, a specially designed belt will be wrapped around your abdomen and a soothing gel will be applied onto your skin. A trained UltraShape technician will glide the UltraShape transducer over the treatment area, gently delivering painless ultrasound pulses.

The only thing I didn't like about my first UltraShape session was the part where my technician advised me that it's best if I don't drink alcohol for 72 hours post-session. Say what?! I'm in the middle of a divorce, so happy hour with friends, drinks and dinner with dates and wine and my Kindle are pretty much my life right now! She explained that since the triglycerides are processed through the liver, if I drank alcohol, my liver would process that first and the triglycerides second, which could cause me to pass them slower.

It wasn't too bad, going three days without wine. I drank a TON of water and maintained the low fat, low carb diet I've been on for the last few weeks and tried to kick up my exercise routine a notch. I haven't been working out as much as I would like to, as I am currently redecorating my house and dragging all of my ex-husband's things out to the trash uses up a lot of strength! I think I'm getting biceps.

You probably want to see a current photo, right? On the date this was taken, I'd lost a total of 17 pounds since my original "before" photo of me in the dress!

Look at how flat my belly is!! I would have never worn a chiffon shirt like that before because it would have shown my belly bulge much too easily...but now I'm not only wearing shirts like this, but I am taking selfies in them...a lot of selfies!

PS...I had my second UltraShape session last week and while my technician said that they don't normally measure clients until the very end...I talked her into doing it anyway because I KNEW I had lost inches!

Guess how many inches I lost? TWO!!

It's totally awesome. With everything that is going on with the divorce, I really needed to work on my self esteem, and the UltraShape results are definitely helping me in that regard! After this series is done, I might go back and hire them to do my booty...
