Summer Vacation Day Trips for Kids
Why not introduce your kids to the beauty and diversity of nature with one of the many things to do in Miami with kids?
Take the kids to your local Zoo
Travel the world in one day by foot, on a safari cycle, or on a tram tour! Zoo Miami has almost 750 acres and 4 miles of walkways, and is home to more than 2,500 animals representing close to 400 different species. From jaguars in the Amazon and tigers in Asia, to koalas in Australia and crocodiles in The Florida Everglades, a trip to Zoo Miami will transport you around the globe!
Don’t forget to visit the Conservation Action Center, a new indoor interactive exhibit where you can crawl through a python to learn about invasive species, whack out environmental threats in “Habitat Whack A Mole,” or race to scoop the “poop” in a composting game.
Plus, enjoy water play areas and up close animal encounters and feedings! Get your tickets here!
Museums
Located in the northern part of Miami near Coconut Grove in Miami is the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science, now known as Frost Science, which offers an amazing experience for families. You can learn about science and technology and enjoy a beautiful view as you are surrounded by feature at its best!
Frost Museum offers different Exhibitions, an Aquarium, but locals know it best as the Planetarium.
The Frost Science Dome is tilted forward at 23.5 degrees, allowing its 67-foot span to fill your field of vision as if you’re flying! Imagery comes at you from above, below and the peripheral edges, creating a nearly 360-degree view of whatever world you’re in. Frost Science also displays spellbinding laser light shows. Get your tickets here!
Safari Parks
If you can’t afford to visit Africa, you still have options closer to home! Florida’s only drive-through safari and walk-through amusement park invites you to spend the day on safari with over 1000 animals. With animal displays and encounters, animal feeding experiences, 5 rides, water sprayground, food, shopping and more, you are sure to have a memorable experience at Lion Country Safari.
Monkey Jungle Miami
Monkey Jungle Miami is by far one of my favorite outdoor things to do in Miami - it is literally right down the street from the neighborhood where I was raised and still live. Monkey Jungle Miami is truly a unique eco-show park! If you love nature AND animals, this park and discovery center is going to be the highlight of your trip to Miami!
Hit the Beach!
South Point Beach is an excellent place to explore the natural beauty of Miami Beaches. South Point Beach offers snorkeling and boating, along with jet ski rentals - allowing you to enjoy the beach and surrounding waters in a variety of ways. Or the kids can just build sand castles all day.
What better way to spend a day FOR FREE with the kids during summer vacation in Miami? Just remember to pack lots of sunscreen and keep in mind that parking your car isn't free!
