This Ham Cheese and Rice Skillet Recipe is really good. My food writer Kari said that she, her husband and their kids loved it! As I have made similar dishes in the past, I believe it! There is just something so ridiculously easy about cooking with rice and broth over the stove - and you can easily substitute chicken or turkey for the ham in this recipe if that is all you have in the kitchen!

This is such a great recipe to make after holidays, or when you want to use up some random things leftover in your fridge at the end of the week! While this recipe is more a side dish, if you want to double the rice the rice and broth, this Ham Cheese and Rice Skillet Recipe will serve more as a meal. As-is, this is more like a side dish for a family of 4.

The rice is the "standard" rice that takes 15 minutes to cook vs instant rice that cooks in 5.

Can You Use Canned Ham in this recipe?

Of course you can use canned ham - I know that many of us are really struggling to find the cuts of meat we preferred in our -pre CoronaVirus times, and we gotta do what we gotta do! You can use canned ham, but I would not recommend it. While it is definitely easy, canned ham is super salty, and ham is salty enough as it is.
