Fun Things to Do at Home That Don't Involve Scrolling

Published: Oct 15, 2026 · by Jennifer · This post may contain affiliate links ·

Most of us are so addicted to our phones that putting them down is a difficult task. Whether we are in our kitchens or the living rooms, most of our time is filled with scrolling. However, there are a few fun-filled activities that can keep you away from scrolling.

    cooking in the kitchen

    Trying a New Recipe

Cooking some of your favorite delicacies is one of the best ways to keep away from scrolling. According to a study, participants in a home cooking program reported significant improvement in general health, mental health, and life satisfaction. That means not only do you get to eat something good, but you also improve your holistic health.

    Journaling

No, we aren't asking you to become a writer. Simply penning down your thoughts for 10 minutes daily before bed not only keeps you away from your phone but also helps you realize and regulate your emotional health better. That certainly keeps anxiety and depression at bay.

    Learning an Instrument

Learning a musical instrument is one of the most rewarding things you can do as an adult. You can pick up a well-known instrument like a guitar, or, if you want something less common and easier to learn, go with a tenor banjo. The aim is to learn an instrument that can deeply engross you and also allow you to perform in front of your family and friends. In this regard, learning tenor banjo is a great starting point.

    Indoor Gardening

Gardening doesn't always require a large yard. You can practice indoor gardening as well as vertical gardening.

Plants and flowers around you can elevate your mood as well. Tending to them ensures that you do not have time for scrolling and have a mindful task that you can pay attention to daily. As the plants grow, so does your happiness, which leads to better mental health as well.

    Reading

According to research by the University of Liverpool, people who read regularly are 21% less likely to develop depression and are 10% more likely to report good self-esteem, as compared to those who spend a lot of time scrolling on their phone.

Make a cup of tea or coffee and pick up an interesting book to read. Not only will you learn new things, but you will also improve your quality of life.

    Yoga

Want something that can keep you away from your phone and improve your health simultaneously? Yoga is the perfect option. If you aren't able to go to a studio, you can simply practice yoga at home in 20-minute morning sessions, and you will notice improvement in your mood and energy for the rest of the day.

    Hosting a Girls' Night In

Getting quality company is certainly a form of self-care. That's why a common plan of turbo activities interests you. You can simply host a girls' night out, consisting of good food, cozy games, and not going anywhere else in particular. You can host it at your home along with your friends and have a good time.

So if you are addicted to your phone like most of us, try any of the above fun things to not only keep away from your phone but also improve the quality of your life.
