Fun Tips and Tricks for Making This American Flag Rice Crispies Treats
I did cut them into ½" slices, but you can easily do about ¼' or ⅜" slices. If you cut into ½" slices, you'll get about 12-15 pieces.
The trick with food coloring is to use A LOT! That always makes colors brighter and bolder.
The stars are just Wilton Silver Stars, totally optional, but my food writer's 7 year old recommended it and it worked!
Ideally you want 3 of the same size baking sheets. Now if you don't have 3, you can transfer the cut pieces to greased wax paper and set aside until you're ready to use. Don't stack them, just leave it as a single layer and put them on wax paper. Hope that makes sense.

American Flag Rice Krispies Treats Directions:
Grease 3 baking sheets (at least 10"x15") with nonstick cooking spray and set aside. You can use a 9x13 pan, but your flag stripes will be thicker.
You will need to make 3 batches of rice krispie treats. One batch needs to be red, one batch blue and the other with no food coloring. To make a batch of rice krispie treats, add 1 bag of marshmallows and 4 tablespoons (¼ cup) butter to a large microwave safe bowl.
Microwave on high, for 60 seconds.
Add food coloring and mix well until all butter is melted and color is even.
Pour in 5 cups of cereal and mix until evenly coated.
Spread into prepared pan.
I like to put a plastic sandwich bag over my hand, spray the bag with nonstick cooking spray and press it onto the prepared pan.
Repeat with blue and non-colored krispie treats. Let harden in the pan for about 30 minutes.
Divide the red and white pan into 3 equal sections. Cut each section. Cut one of the 3 seconds in half.
You should have 2 large red pieces and 2 smaller red pieces and the same for the white.
Cut the blue sheet into 3 equal sections and cut each section in half, so you have 6 small sections.
Stack 4 small blue sections on top of each other. The remaining sections you will not use for this recipe.
Layer on wax paper, large red, large white, large red and large white. Follow by stacking the short red, white and red putting it along one edge of the large pieces. You will have one white section remaining that you will not use.
Place the blue section next to the short red and white sections and gently press everything together.
You can do this with your hands, your greased sandwich bag or by wrapping the wax paper around the treats and compressing all of the treats together. Let set for an additional hour before slicing.
Slice into ½" pieces with a large sharp knife. If you have issues slicing, heating the knife may help. Top slices with candy stars if desired.
