Crispy, Chewy Chocolate Chip MMs Cookies Recipe

These Crispy, Chewy Chocolate Chip M&M's Cookies have two secret ingredients...

Well, they won't be so secret after I tell you what they are! But they'll be a secret between you and everyone who asks you about these incredibly delicious cookies! Don't tell them!

The Secret Behind this Crispy, Chewy Chocolate Chip M&M's Cookies Recipe

The first secret is that instead of butter, this Chocolate Chip M&M's Cookies Recipe calls for vegetable shortening. I normally try to use baking substitutes to cut down on calories, fat and sugar - but sometimes you just have to go for it and indulge.

    Sometimes.

    Not all the time.

Our Chocolate Chip M&M's Cookies Recipe has a secret ingredient!

Which leads me to my second secret: this recipe calls for milk - I know, right?! The milk usually comes AFTER you've baked the cookies. Well, instead of adding milk, I added Fat Free & Sugar Free International Delight coffee creamer.

Seriously, all that vegetable shortening lends enough fat to this recipe, we don't need any extra! It gives a tiny bit of extra flavor, but it's just enough to take these cookies from awesome to OMGAWESOME.

How to Make this Crispy, Chewy Chocolate Chip M&M's Cookies Recipe

I got this recipe from an old cookbook that I bought from ABC Distributing back in the late 90's, Grandma's Old-Fashioned Cookies. Check it out!

Ingredients needed to make this Crispy, Chewy Chocolate Chip M&M's Cookies Recipe

    • ¾ cup vegetable shortening (I use Crisco)
    • 2 teaspoons of Fat Free & Sugar Free International Delight coffee creamer
    • 1 ¼ cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
    • 1 egg
    • 1 teaspoon of salt
    • 1 tablespoon on baking soda
    • 1 tablespoon of pure vanilla extract
    • 2 cups of all purpose flour
    • 1 cup of M&Ms - you can use regular sized M&Ms or M&Ms Minis
    • 1 ½ cup of semi sweet chocolate chips (you can use dark or milk chocolate if you like, and you can use regular sized chips or minis)

Please note that if you do not have coffee creamer, you can just use milk - any kind of milk will do! I have even used almond milk in this recipe and it turned out the same.

Instructions needed to make this Crispy, Chewy Chocolate Chip M&M's Cookies Recipe

Preheat oven to 375. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.

Beat all ingredients EXCEPT flour, M&Ms and chocolate chips until you have a crumbly mixture.

Add flour and beat at medium speed for about 30 seconds, until thoroughly combined.

Stir in M&Ms and chocolate chips.

Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls onto parchment paper-lined cookie sheet, spacing about 2 inches apart.

    Bake for 9 minutes.

NOTE: When you pull them out of the oven, they will NOT look "done" at all. They will be really light and dough-y.

Do not put them back into the oven!! Let them sit on the cookie sheet for about a minute, then transfer to wire racks to cool.

Once they begin to cool, you'll notice them start to turn golden and firm up a lot.

Wow! Number One - Coffee Creamer? I'm addicted to creamer in my coffee, as it is. Adding to my cookies is such a great idea. Number Two - My mom used to use shortening in her cookie recipes, but I use butter. I'll need to go back and try the shortening (not all the time). I cannot wait to try this recipe.

You can never go wrong with freshly baked cookies, but something about using M&Ms makes them even more special. I am definitely intrigued with using creamer too!

It's official. My diet is over. I need to eat like a dozen of these immediately. I like crispy cookies. I like chewy cookies. I know I will adore crispy, chewy ones.

International Delight is a great way to make coffee taste better, and so many other things. I like this cookie recipe because I like chewy, crisp, chocolate, and M&Ms.

The shortening makes for a much chewier cookie, in my opinion! 🙂 I use butter in some recipes, though I usually substitute applesauce or coconut oil to make things healthier. But Crisco...it really makes for an awesome, chewy cookie with a crispy outside!

I am a sucker for a good chocolate chip m&m cookie. My mom used to make these when I was a kid because m&m used to be my favorite candy. I also love International Delights fat free sugar free creamers but I have yet to bake with them!
