This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Chiquita Banana for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

Every time I hear of or see Chiquita bananas, I think of the old commercial with the Chiquita banana girl. I always thought the lyrics were "My name is Chiquita Banana and I've come to say, I come from little island down across the way". I looked the lyrics up and I was close it's actually "My name is Chiquita Banana and I've come to say" and then either "bananas have to ripen in a certain way (1944)" or "I offer good nutrition in a simple way (1999)." The official Chiquita banana site says that the lyrics have been changed many times over the years to support special causes or projects so it's possible I heard the first lyrics, but more likely I made them up on my own. I'm sure we've all made up our own lyrics to songs, right? I just might have been singing while making this new Tropical Green Smoothie this morning...

You might be wondering why I'm talking about bananas and their songs. It's because the #ChiquitaCookingLab is currently running an amazing recipe contest! The contest is currently active and runs through November 24th. Each week, you can visit the Chiquita site to learn what the three required components are (mine were bananas, spinach, and pineapple) and use them as inspiration to create a new recipe.

    Cookinglab_temp_300x250_zps253dc32b

I created a Tropical Green Smoothie recipe using Chiquita bananas, fresh pineapple, fresh baby spinach, pineapple juice and ice. It was incredibly simple, but a delicious mid-morning snack jam packed with nutrients!

You can use more than what's required, but must use at least those. The sky's the limit, so use your creativity to come up with something sweet or savory. Submit your recipe through the #ChiquitaCookingLab website or you can even use the Chiquita FanFun app. You can also use the app to earn points to trade in for fun banana items, find banana recipes, and participate in special promotions such as this recipe contest.

Every week five recipes will be chosen with the Grand Prize being awarded $4,000! Four First Prize winners will receive a Chiquita prize pack. The winner's recipes will be turned into a stop motion video and shared across Chiquita's social media. Can you imagine how much fun that would be?

Submit your unique recipe each week to increase your chances of winning this fun contest!

Now, on to my Tropical Green Smoothie recipe!

Add each item to your blender and pulse at high speed for 20 seconds. If you have a "smoothie" or "frozen drink" setting on your blender, use that!

If you don't have one, check out this guide on the top glass blenders and we hope you will find the perfect one for you.

I've been putting spinach in a lot of smoothies lately so this green recipe is right up my alley. We can get Chiquita bananas for a pretty good price here and eat them almost daily!

I'm willing to try it, but I'm not a fan of the green in my drink! I've tried so many recipes, but pineapple does make it appealing!
