I received complimentary passage on the Sun Fun You Voyage along with my friend, but all opinions are my own.
The Greek Islands. Turkish coffee. Feta cheese drizzled with honey. Sunbathing on a yacht. Sipping Prosecco with friends. Swimming in the Aegean Sea...what do all of these things have in common? Sun Fun You Mediterranean Voyages, that's what!
I've wanted to go on the Greek Islands voyage with Sun Fun You for quite some time, but the dates and airfare costs just never aligned with my schedule. When they reached out to invite me on this fall's voyage earlier this summer, I was amazed at the timing...I was in the middle of planning a trip to Barcelona with one of my girlfriends, and I was scheduled to leave the DAY BEFORE this voyage began in Kos, Greece. It seemed that the fates had finally decided it was my time to go on this voyage, as the flight from Barcelona to Kos was only about $150, including paying to check my luggage!
So, what was included on this incredible journey through the Greek Islands?
- A licensed guide to lead the hikes and answer history and culture questions
- A certified fitness instructor for group classes
- A cooking demonstration
- Backgammon and knot tying lessons
- Raki tasting, bingo and belly dancing
- Swimming and water-sports in private coves
- Excursions through Greek Islands and a stop in Bodrum, Turkey
So I was finally able to make it happen this year. I brought my dear friend, Angie, and we spent an amazing seven days with Sun Fun You, eating, sunbathing, exploring the islands, swimming in the sea...and I TOOK UP YOGA!
I was a little nervous about doing a "fitness voyage," because I am not a gym person, but I had nothing to be worried about! The fitness instructor wasn't a hardcore type of trainer, she worked with everyone's fitness levels, and everything was optional anyway. I left Angie to do the workouts while I enjoyed the yoga and low key hikes.
There were tons of hikes, some were pretty hardcore and some were very low key, which is more my style.
I had never done yoga before and I am so grateful to have found this amazing new love! It's perfect for my lifestyle and made me feel SO good every day!
The food? Oh boy, let's talk about the food! Everything was freshly prepared, authentic Turkish or Greek cuisine, expertly cooked by our personal chef.
We even had a cooking class one day, which was so fun!
We had three lovely meals a day, and there wasn't a bunch of junk food around to ruin our appetites. I've discovered a new love...Feta cheese drizzled with honey! Who knew that it would be such a delightful flavor combination? If you haven't tried it yet, I highly recommend it.
I'd have to say that my favorite meals were the fresh fish that our captain caught right where we were docked...and his delicious stew!
They let us fish too, right off the side of the boat. Full disclosure: I did not catch that fish on my own.
The boat itself was not huge, but our cabins were much bigger than I had anticipated, and were quite comfy! We also had our own bathrooms, which believe it or not, was bigger than my own bathroom at home!
I can't say enough about the amazingly friendly crew members, they catered to our every need and had us laughing every day. They were such a great bunch of people, they all felt like family by the time the week was over.
Each port was perfect, with breathtaking views, rich in history, and had either hiking, walks or swimming and water sports to keep us happily entertained. Oh...and the shopping! We can't forget the shopping! Greece is one of my favorite countries, but during this trip, I saw so much more of the islands than I have on previous trips, as we skirted the coastline and visited individual cities and towns. You really haven't seen Greece until you've hopped through the islands! Each day, it was like waking up to something out of a fairy tale.
A few of the activities on our itinerary...
Shopping and Turkish bath in Bodrum/Kusadasi...
Visiting Patmos and see the holy Cave of the Apocalypse and the Monastery of Saint John “the Theologian...” I actually sat this hike out, as I am not in my peak physical condition right now. Instead I went shopping and enjoyed the lovely view!
Hiking in Kalymnos along the Italian Road, followed by a beer and calamari party...
One of my favorite parts of this Sun Fun You Mediterranean Voyage was the time we spent on the water, sunbathing, kayaking, paddle boarding, swimming...
I love these type of water activities, they're a great way to get in a little exercise and also enjoy your environment.
My voyage was in September, so the water was a bit chilly for my taste - I am so spoiled with our warm water in Miami! But of course I had to go in anyway!
Our week spent with Sun Fun You Mediterranean Voyages was one full of relaxation, bonding time among friends...it was really the ultimate girl's getaway and the perfect way to get get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and recharge our souls!
We also did one of my favorite water sports...we tubed! You haven't lived until you've swam in the Aegean sea and tubed in those gorgeous waters with the backdrop of the mountains behind you!
My week with Sun Fun You Mediterranean Voyages was one of the best weeks of my year...and that's saying a lot, as I traveled to Germany, Canada, Ireland, Iceland, England, Romania, Croatia, Spain and Greece (yes, I went to Greece twice in 2017!)....I highly recommend checking out their private charters and their group trips - you won't regret it!
