After a long trip away from home on our South African safari, I was excited to be back home and spend a quiet weekend away with Chris at the Newport Beachside Resort. While Sunny Isles Beach isn't too far away from us here in Miami, it's far enough away that it's too far to drive to for a day, so we don't visit as often as I'd like! As excited as I was about spending the weekend there, I had to cut my trip short and head home for an emergency root canal due to an abscess. I'm just grateful that it didn't happen while I was in South Africa - or even worse, on the 18 hour flight home! We did spend one lovely evening in Sunny Isles Beach, and I can't wait to plan a return trip back - one day just wasn't enough!

Things to do during your stay at the Newport Beachside Resort
Visit the Ancient Spanish Monastery
Location: 16711 West Dixie Highway, North Miami Beach, FL 33160
The Ancient Spanish Monastery, originally known as the Monastery of St. Bernard de Clairvaux, was built in 1133 AD in Sacramenia, Spain. After the revolution in the 1830s, it was sold and converted into a granary, and in 1925, William Randolph Hearst bought the cloisters and outbuildings. The buildings were dismantled and shipped to the United States, where they eventually found their way to Florida and were rebuilt!
Play in the Game Room
There is a game room for the kids once they wear themselves out from playing in the surf, and don't be shy - parents can enjoy the old school arcade style games found there too!
Take a Walk to Pier Park
Location: 16501 Collins Avenue, Sunny Isles Beach, FL 33160 - adjacent to Newport Beachside Resort
The Beach Bar at the Pier is a lovely restaurant situated right on...you guessed it, the Pier! People must walk past the outdoor seating area to get to the fishing portion of the pier, so you might as well stop for a drink or a bite to eat!
