Sometimes you just want to get away, but your budget is tight and time is limited. So what do you do? Chris and I recently took a little weekend getaway in Sunny Isles Beach, which is only about an hour and a half away from where we live, but it has a completely different atmosphere - it is the Florida Riviera, after all!
Sunny Isles each is South Beaches' quiet cousin, just a short drive away from the hustle and bustle, you'll find a relaxing vibe, fantastic food and gorgeous beaches. With 2.5 miles of shoreline, Sunny Isles Beach is a fantastic spot for families seeking a more relaxed Miami vacation spot, or for couples looking for a little R&R.
Newport Beachside Resort in Sunny Isles Beach with Groupon Getaways
Situated right in the middle of this lovely area is the Newport Beachside Hotel & Resort, which we were able to reserve a room for only $69 a night through a Groupon Getaways deal.

After arriving home from a long trip to South Africa with Angeline the prior week, I was ready for a little downtime with my husband...unfortunately, I developed a pretty serious dental problem right when we were supposed to leave for our getaway and had to spend the day at the dentist's office. I was nervous that the hotel would cancel our reservation if I didn't make it in time, but after a simple phone call to let them know I had a dental emergency, they agreed to hold my reservation until the next day. Talk about customer service; I was pleasantly surprised by their accommodating nature!
We checked in to the Newport Beachside Resort and Spa early Friday afternoon and spent a little time exploring the hotel, which had a beautiful tile mural in the lobby. First impressions are everything, and they certainly weren't lacking in that department!
Chris and I spent a little time lounging on the beach and then made our way down to the half-mile-long Newport Fishing Pier, which is actually the only remaining public pier in Miami-Dade County! As we ate dinner, we watched families making their way down the pier with fishing poles and tackle boxes in hand...and wished that we had thought to bring ours!
We had a lovely dinner at Pier Restaurant, which sits right at the beginning on the pier. As I was having a pretty bad toothache, I stuck to softer foods, like this delicious Caprese Salad. You just can't go wrong with buffalo mozzarella!
And the view while we ate dinner? Yeah, it was pretty fantastic!

I've never used Groupon Getaways but now I'm eager to learn more. Most of my trips are outdoorsy (as in carrying all my gear on my back and sleeping in a tent) but I'm sure I could learn to sleep in a nice hotel room...lol!
