For my #AlamoDriveHappy resolution in 2015, I wanted to make a point to spend more time with my husband on our travels. I often travel alone, or with my daughter, due to my husband's limited vacation time. Well, this spring was really no different in that aspect - Angeline and I went on safari in South Africa and guess who didn't have enough vacation days to accompany us on this trip of a lifetime? If you guessed "Chris," well, you are correct. We had an amazing time, but it would have been even better if he had been there...
As soon as I came home from South Africa, Chris and I went away for a little weekend getaway at a nearby beach resort.
Our weekend was cut short due to my needing to rush back to Miami for an emergency root canal, but even that little trip to paradise was enough to rekindle the romance and provide some much-needed bonding time after I'd been away for almost two weeks.
We walked along the beach, drank tropical cocktails on the boardwalk - it was exactly the kind of quality time I had in mind when I made my Alamo Drive Happy travel resolution at the beginning of the year!
You know, you don't have to go away to spend quality time with your significant other. You can sneak away with your love for a little date night, or meet during the work day for a quick lunch! Are there any special festivals happening in your city, or live bands playing at the neighborhood restaurant? Those are all perfect opportunities to get away with your partner and spend quality time together!
Chris and I both love to go fishing, and it's a great way for us to spend time together and just chat.
Now, my dental emergency is a perfect example of how sometimes it doesn't really matter how much planning goes into a trip - you just never know what is going to happen!
We had our hotel booked, my bags were packed, we had a schedule of things to do and restaurants to visit, and we ended up only being able to go out to dinner on our first night. I was back in Miami in the dentist's chair early Saturday morning...plans be damned.
So what do you do when things go wrong on a trip?
Just go with the flow.
What other choice do you have? I recommend purchasing travel insurance for your trip so that you can recoup as many expenses as possible if you have to cancel your trip altogether. If you're already ON your trip, like I was when I had to run off for a root canal, just accept it and go on with your life. You can always make up the experience at a later date!
Chris and I are going to make up that weekend in Sunny Isles Beach on another beach next month - we're going to Jamaica for a weekend!

I have learned the hard way that it is important to buy insurance. But there is nothing like getting some quality time with a loved one.

It's a really good thing to buy it--better to be safe than sorry as the saying goes. We have trips coming up to China and Australia and you can bet we have insurance for these trips! Can't wait to go!

I so love to travel and am happy that we still do with the 3 kids. Yet, activities are so time consuming now that they are older, we don't get to go as often as we'd like to. But, i can't complain, we do have a full life!

We really don't travel all that much. Definitely focusing on what is right is key!
