Keeping Skin Healthy During The Summer

When it comes to skincare, nothing ever seems cut and dry. People are like snowflakes, we’re all different, and with the skin being the body’s largest organ, our skin is different too. What works for one person won’t work for another. While you’ve likely got friends and family members with well-meaning intentions that give you advice about products, it may not always work with your skin. Thankfully, there are some universal truths when it comes to skincare. One absolute truth for beautiful skin, no matter your age or gender, is that you must switch up your care routine based on the season. As we step into summer, there are some steps you need to take to ensure your complexion stays healthy and glowing. Keep reading for tips to keep your skin healthy during the summer that will work for anyone.

Always Remove Makeup

This may sound like a no-brainer, but many of us still don’t remove all our makeup before hitting the hay each night. Make sure that you keep a gentle makeup remover next to your nightstand for nights when you can’t be bothered to wash your face. It’s also a great idea to keep a toner next to your bed to spritz it on after wiping your makeup off.

Get Plenty Of Sleep

Speaking of bedtime, making sure you get plenty of shut-eye is easy to keep your complexion healthy. They don’t call it “beauty sleep” for no reason. When we sleep, our bodies heal on a cellular level, getting rid of the junk that can make us look tired and affect skin appearance. More sleep also means less puffy eyes and dark circles, not to mention preventing wrinkles! Add a satin or silk pillowcase to maximize sleep benefits to your skin (and hair).

Invest In The Right Products

You’ve heard the phrase “you get what you pay for.” This is true in most areas of life, but since your face is typically the first thing people notice about you, it’s worth investing in. From the makeup you use to the products that clean your skin, investing in high-quality products targeted for your skin concerns is critical. If you don’t know where to start, makeup subscription boxes or a skincare subscription can introduce you to products to try. Figuring out what works for you takes some trial and error, but it’s worth the investment of time and money.

Eat Seasonally

One of the best things you can do for their skin is restore your skin microbiome. Thankfully, summer lends itself to some of the most delicious fruits and vegetables in peak freshness and taste. By eating a balanced and healthy diet, anyone can heal their skin. You are what you eat is a common adage, and it’s true. When you nourish your body from within, the results will always appear externally. Take advantage of all the delicious food in the summertime, and your skin will thank you.

Hydrate Often

Hydration is key when it comes to skin, no matter your type. This is especially true during the summer as we’re spending more time outdoors under the harsh sun and are typically more active than in the cooler months. Make sure that you’re hydrating each morning with a day cream that works for your skin type, and switch it to a richer cream in the evening. Take hydrating literally and drink plenty of water also. Just like nourishing your body’s largest organ with food is essential, so is drinking plenty of water. We are composed of sixty percent water, after all!

Different SPF

Hopefully, you know the importance of wearing SPF year-round, but take things a step further in the summertime. Firstly, make sure you’re applying a different SPF to your delicate facial skin than you are to your body. Additionally, you want to reapply every few hours when you spend extended time under the sun, like poolside or by the ocean, or even a day at the park. SPF lotions can clog some people’s skin types, so make sure you’re exfoliating your face and body.

Taking care of your skin looks different for everyone. If you don’t know your skin type, an appointment with a dermatologist should be your first step in learning how to care for your skin. Along with the above-mentioned steps, their advice should make it easy to keep your skin looking its best this summer and ensure a care-free, breezy season. Now, get glowing!
