    • ยฝ cup unsweetened baking cocoa 
    • 1-ยฝ teaspoons baking soda
    • ยผ teaspoon salt
    • ยฝ cup, 1 stick, butter, melted
    • ยพ cup granulated sugar
    • 1 cup mashed sweet potatoes
    • 1 egg
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla
    • 1-ยฝ cups chocolate chips, divided

    How to get Mashed Sweet Potatoes for this recipe

    For the sweet potato puree, I ended up buying sweet potatoes in a can and mashed them until I had 1 cup. The can was large, 29 oz, and I used about half the can. The can said Yams - Cut Sweet Potatoes in Syrup. I drained the syrup and mashed the potatoes and used them in this recipe. 

    You can certainly bake a sweet potato (or probably 2), scoop out the insides and mash for this recipe. Or peel and cube and boil like a normal potato for mashed potatoes, drain and mash. 

    Instructions for how to make Sweet Potato Brownies

    Follow these simple steps to brownie perfection!

    Preheat and Prep: First things first, preheat your oven to 325ยฐF (163ยฐC). Grease an 8x8 inch baking pan with nonstick cooking spray and set it aside.

    Combine Dry Ingredients: In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix it well to make sure everything is evenly combined.

    Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate, larger bowl, add the melted butter, sugar, and mashed sweet potatoes. Stir everything together until it's well combined. Then, stir in the egg and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth.
