A note about the Candy Conversation Hearts
So, we are all about transparency, and sometimes the recipes that we make aren't going to look EXACTLY the same as our photos for these Valentine's Day Cocoa Bombs. It's like when you go to a fast food joint and your burger doesn't look like the ads you see on TV.
So, FULL DISCLOSURE here:
The candy conversation hearts are going to sink to the bottom of your mug, and there's only about 6-8 marsh mallows inside.
So we have added marshmallows and conversation hearts on top once we have dropped our hot chocolate bomb in!
We recommend adding a little bag of the mini marshmallows and candy conversation hearts to the Valentine's Day Cocoa Bombs gift bag if you're making these for gifts!
Ingredients you need to start gathering to make these Valentine's Day Cocoa Bombs
Keep in mind, all of the ingredient amounts you will need to make our Valentine's Day Cocoa Bombs are in the printable recipe card below.
- ½ bag of red candy melts
- 1 tablespoon of white candy melts for the drizzle
- Wilton Red Candy Melts and White candy melts - this is so much easier than using regular chocolate because they are made FOR MELTING!
- Valentine sprinkles for inside and outside the hot cocoa bomb recipe. I usually stick with the Wilton brand, as I have so much experience using Wilton decorating supplies - there are never any surprises!
- A bag of Mini Marshmallows and Valentine's Day Conversation Hearts to fill these Valentine's day Cocoa Bombs up with!
NOTE: I use this 6-Cavity Semi Sphere Silicone Mold, it's super cheap on Amazon.com and easy to clean up too!
Directions for making these Valentine's Day Cocoa Bombs
Add your Wilton Red candy melts to a microwave safe bowl. Microwave the candy melts for 60 seconds at 50% power and then stir them up.
Return to the microwave and microwave for 30 seconds, stirring until they reach a smooth consistency.
You may need to microwave for an additional 30 seconds - just make sure not to burn them!
Add a dollop of melted candy into one cavity of the mold. Use the back of the spoon to drag the melted candy to spread in the mold. Repeat until all 6 molds are full.
You will have leftover melted candy and need to reserve it. Remove the spoon from the bowl and set it aside for later. Place the silicone mold into the freezer for 10 minutes.
Reheat the red candy if no longer soft and remove mold from the freezer, add a second layer of melted candy spreading it up the sides just like the first time.
Return it to the freezer to harden.
How we're going to stick these babies together!
Now you're going to heat a small frying pan over medium heat and then immediately remove it. We just want it to get nice and hot, but we're not cooking anything!
Remove the chocolate spheres from the mold and set them onto a flat surface.
Place the sphere - with the open side facing down - onto the hot pan for 1-2 seconds so that the edge smooths out and flattens. We are just melting the edges a tiny bit so that they're neater to work with.
Set rounds on to a flat surface and fill with marshmallows and conversation hearts.
Place a sphere, open side down, onto the hot pan and gently press it on top of a filled sphere.
Hold it together for a few seconds and then let it stand for a few minutes to harden up.
How we're going to make our drizzle!
Add your Wilton white candy melts to a resealable bag - but do not seal it!
Microwave the white chocolate melts at 50% power for 30 seconds. Flip the bag over and repeat, kneading the bag until smooth.
You are going to cut a small tip into the corner of the bag - think like using a frosting tip, you want it precise and sharp - and then drizzle the candy over the top of the hot cocoa bombs.
Add your Valentine's sprinkles and make sure to spread them evenly for the best presentation. Let them stand to harden.
