To say that I am a Daddy's girl would be the biggest understatement of the century. Growing up in South Florida, we were always an outdoorsy type of family, with memories dating back to my early childhood of camping, boating, fishing and just enjoying everything sunny South Florida has to offer! My father always had a boat...sometimes two boats; you know, for different purposes!
I have been fishing and snorkeling in the Atlantic and Gulf for as long as I can remember - I'm actually quite the fisherman myself, but nothing compared to my dad! Don't get me wrong, my mom is an awesome fisher as well, but today we're focusing on Dads!
As most adults experience, I've been watching my parents slowly get...a little bit older. A little bit slower. A little bit less...well, how I remember them as a child. When I was a kid, my dad would take me, and sometimes my cousins, on weekend fishing trips in the Keys. We'd set out on his boat with our camping gear, fish all day, then camp out on a nearby island. Some of those memories aren't so fantastic - like the time his boat broke down and we floated around the Keys for almost an entire day before finding help.
That never put a damper on the good memories though, like when my parents bought their first timeshare in Key Largo and they'd spend a week there, right on the best fishing spot in Key Largo! My little family would join them for the weekends and fish all day! Even my ex husband, who grew up in the desert, developed a love of fishing from my father, and began to acquire quite the collection of fishing gear.
Fortunately for me, I got all of those goodies in our divorce!
As my dad begins to age, I've begun to accept that he won't be around forever, and I cherish all of these memories of spending time with him on the boat more than ever. Dementia runs in my family, and I know that he won't remember all of the details of these fantastic family fishing trips for much longer. Thankfully, he still goes boating and fishing with my mom quite often, and they are having just as much fun bringing home their freshly caught fish as they always have!
It's kind of funny, growing up in Miami. Many of us locals aren't a fan of ordering seafood in a restaurant, or buying it at the grocery store - because we'd much rather have the entire experience and catch it ourselves! Sometimes the catch is so large that it needs to be preserved...and that is where the FoodSaver® GameSaver® comes in! It's the perfect Father's Day present, whether the outdoorsy man in your life (your dad, husband, uncle, son, etc) loves to fish or hunt!
FoodSaver® GameSaver® is a superior food preservation system that helps you make the most of your fish and game by keeping it fresh up to five times longer. YES, that is FIVE TIMES LONGER, so say goodbye to freezer burn and rushing to use up your stash!
The winning combo is the GameSaver® 710 Big Game™ Vacuum Sealing System and the GameSaver® 11" x 16'” Vacuum Heat-Seal Rolls so he has everything he needs for his next catch!
Why is the Big GameTM so Awesome?
It keeps fish and game fresh up to 5X longer* and prevents freezer burn (*compared to ordinary storage methods), and keeps meat, fish, and poultry fresh with the highest performance to process and preserve faster with up to 80 consecutive seals or 240 pounds. It has a rugged carry handle and 12 Volt DC adaptor make it convenient to power up and preserve from autos, boats and RVs. I'm not very strong at all, and it's light enough for me to carry!
It also has a built-in storage compartment that holds the Fresh Handheld Sealer to use when marinating food in the FoodSaver® Fresh Containers.
