How to Spend a Day in The Florida Keys

When my in-laws were in town visiting a while back, we took them down to Key West for a day and a night. It was their first time down in the Florida Keys, and their first time seeing the 7 Mile Bridge in person!

As soon as we arrived, we parked the car and headed down to Duval street to show them around. Originally, I had planned activities for our time in the Keys, but they were so enamored with the sights that we ended up just walking, browsing and hanging out!

Of course we took them down to the Southernmost Point, where every Key West tourist must grab a photo!

And then we took them to my favorite place in Key West, Sloppy Joe’s Bar. Sloppy Joe’s is a Key West landmark, an institution – and they have the best Pina Coladas and live music on the island! My father in-law LOVED it! He especially loved the 80’s cover band that was playing that evening, Rumor Mill. They were awesome!

We had dinner at Margaritaville, of course!

The next morning, we took them to Smathers Beach – it’s now my favorite beach on the island. They loved it! I think we spent about an hour there, soaking up the sun, smelling the salty ocean air and enjoying the peace and quiet. It was a lovely way to end our short stay in Key West!

Great pictures! I was always terrified of driving over that bridge. I’ve never been to Smathers Beach, I will have to check it out next time I am down there.

I’m hoping to take my husband to Key West for the first time in May via the Key West Express. Great pics!
