Why we love this Rocky Road Banana Bread Recipe
With the holiday season in full swing and Valentine's Day right around the corner (I know, I'm getting a little ahead of myself!), I thought I'd whip up a few easy entertaining recipes using a few varieties of the new Hershey's™ Spreads for you guys.
Really, I just wanted an excuse to get creative in the kitchen with this delicious dessert bread recipe! This recipe is a decadent breakfast bread or an easy dessert bread made with Hershey's chocolate spread!
What Makes this Rocky Road Banana Bread Recipe so Special
Since Hershey's™ Spreads sent me six whole jars, I decided to do a little experimenting with a recipe using the chocolate spread.
It's one of my favorite banana bread recipes, just slightly altered to sweeten it up a bit...because everything tastes better with a little chocolate, right?
I gathered a jar of the plain chocolate Hershey's™ Spreads, marshmallows and pecans to turn my banana bread into a Rocky Road banana bread!
How to make our Rocky Road Banana Bread Recipe
This Rocky Road Banana Bread has everything you want in a banana bread!
It is moist and slightly sweet - but the layer of Hershey's™ Spreads, chopped pecans and melted marshmallow add an entirely new dimension!
Ingredients
- 6 tablespoons Hershey's™ Spreads - or other chocolate spread
- 3 ripe bananas
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ cup applesauce (you can use melted butter or vegetable oil if you don't have applesauce on hand)
- 2 eggs
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- ½ cup white sugar
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup mini marshmallows
- ½ cup chopped pecans
Directions
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F and spray two loaf pans with nonstick cooking spray and then dust them with flour.
In a large bowl, beat together the applesauce, eggs, sugars, vanilla, bananas, salt and baking soda and powder.
Once completely combined, gradually add in the flour.
Pour your batter into your loaf pan until it's about ⅓ of the way full.
Then add your chopped pecans, mini marshmallows and drop the Hershey's™ Spreads evenly over the surface.
Pour more batter over the top until your loaf pan is almost full to the top.
TOP TIP: This bread won't really rise so you can fill it up almost to the top.
Bake at 350 degrees F for 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean.
This twist on Banana Bread is so much fun to make!
A special note about this recipe
At the time I originally wrote this post...it was 2013. Hershey's sent me a box of these spreads to make recipes with, and they were in store shelves just about everywhere.
BUT that was A DECADE AGO, and of course, things change! ha! I checked online and it seems that they are still available in most grocery stores. If you can't find Hershey's Chocolate spreads in your local stores, you can substitute it with any other kind of spread!

I have only tried one of these spreads and I didn't even see it mentioned. After trying the Sea Salted Caramel, I find it hard to try another because I want another jar of caramel. It was just so delicious by itself, I have to get another jar to try in recipes.
