Amwell is one of my favorite things about modern technology. I’ve written a couple of posts about them in the past, and I simply can’t say enough about them. Whether you’re a crusty, snotty mess or your trying to quit smoking or almost anything in between, Amwell is there for you with the swipe of a finger. It’s absolutely the most convenient way to see a doctor.
All About Amwell
Before I get in to writing about my experience with this company, I’d like to make sure everyone’s caught up on the service, what it does, and why it’s so great. AMerican WELL is the nation’s largest telehealth company. It connects board-certified, licensed doctors, dieticians, and psychologists for live, online visits to patients when they need them wherever they need them.
American Well allows you to save money, save time, and save your sanity. You can see a doctor immediately, with the doctors having an average of 15 years of experience. It’s pretty amazing that so much convenience is wrapped up into one website!
Typical Medical Issues Addressed by American Well Doctors
- Sinus infection
- Sore throat
- Urinary tract infection
- Sprains and strains
- Respiratory infections
- Depression and anxiety
- Weight issues
- Smoking cessation
I absolutely love Amwell for all the reasons above and more! On average you can save around $33 per visit, you can connect with a doctor at any time of day or night, and you can get your prescriptions quickly and easily. Just give the docs your info and get started – it’s really that easy! You can save your insurance information in the system, or let them know that you don’t have insurance (my visit was estimated at $49 before apply the coupon code that made it just $1)!
You can even set up your local pharmacy for easy prescription call ins.
Getting Healthy with Amwell Part 2
I wrote in another article that I was using Amwell to help get myself back into fighting shape, post divorce. Well the continuation of that is using this service to try to stop smoking. I’ve tried and tried on my own to stop smoking. The result has always been the same – 1 week of extreme crankiness followed by going back to smoking with a two week reentry of taking extra deep draws. I’ve tried using vaping devices but they just aren’t the same, and I’ve tried the nicotine patches and lozenges but they’re either too weak or too strong – so I know that I need to get a prescription for smoking cessation medication.
I spoke with an Amwell doctor to try to make this time my last time to quit smoking. The doctor listened to my history and my concerns, Talked with me about my options, including prescriptions and a support system, and then called in a prescription to my local pharmacy for an aid to help me stop smoking. I don’t want to jinx anything, but the appointment went well and my Doctor called in a prescription for me for a medication that I’ve successfully used in the past to quit smoking. Fingers crossed…I’ll keep you guys updated when I kick this nasty habit!
