1. Les Dennis in 42nd Street
Les Dennis is British TV royalty, having presented Family Fortunes for 15 years, as well as starring in Coronation Street, amongst a handful of other TV shows. He is also a comic and stage performer; some of his recent roles include Grandad Trotter in Only Fools and Horses The Musical and Wilbur in Hairspray.
With an incredible list of accolades behind him, he is now back in the West End, this time playing Bert Barry in 42nd Street. You can see this at Sadler’s Wells Theatre this June.
2. Aimee Lou Wood in Cabaret
Aimee Lou Wood is most famous for her role in the hit Netflix show Sex Education, where she plays the role of a character also called Aimee. Before this, she had made several film appearances, including starring alongside Bill Nighy.
This spring, she’ll return to the stage but this time as Sally Bowles in Cabaret. You can get tickets to see her at the glamorous Kit Kat Club in London.
3. Lenny Henry in August in England
Lenny Henry may have started his career in children’s television, but he has come a long way since then. As if being a writer and award-winning actor isn’t enough, he is also one of Britain’s best-loved comedians.
And let’s not forget all the work he has done for Comic Relief!
This year, he has found time in his packed schedule to star in August in England at the Bush Theatre. This is a show you won’t want to miss.
4. Sheridan Smith in Shirley Valentine
Sheridan Smith has been one of the biggest names in British TV for over a decade now, appearing in popular shows like The C word, Benidorm, Cilla, The Royle Family, Gavin and Stacey and many more.
She is an award-winning actress, and her performances never fail to impress, and this theatre production is no exception. This year she is starring in Shirley Valentine at the Duke of York’s Theatre.
But this is not her first time on the stage. In recent years Smith has starred in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Legally Blonde and Funny Girl, to name just a few.
5. Michael Ball in Aspects of Love
At this point, Michael Ball is theatre royalty, having sung his heart out in hundreds of shows over the years. But his impressive career is nowhere near its end, and this year he’s back again.
In the past, he has been in classic shows like Sweeney Todd, Les Misérables, Hairspray and many more. But over the coming months, you can enjoy him as George in the West End revival of Aspects of Love at the Lyric Theatre.
6. Ore Oduba in The Rocky Horror Show
Ore Oduba is one of the nation’s most beloved presenters. He is best known for hosting shows like This Morning, The One Show and is also on BBC Radio 2.
He was the winner of series 14 of Strictly Come Dancing, making him the perfect candidate for a role in The Rocky Horror Show. This spring, he will be taking on the role of Brad Majors at the Peacock Theatre.
Of course, this is not his theatre debut; he has also starred in Curtains opposite Jason Manford, as well as Grease.
7. Cheryl in 2:22 A Ghost Story
Cheryl Tweedy is known for being a part of Girls Aloud, who rose to fame on Popstars The Rivals back in 2002. Since then, she has had lots of other roles as a presenter, a judge on the X-Factor and an actress.
She has also pointed her talents towards the stage, and this spring, she is playing Jenny in 2:22 A Ghost Story. This is a creepy tale of a young woman who thinks her new house is haunted, and it will be shown at the Lyric Theatre for the next few months.
8. Danny Mac in Pretty Woman
He may have earned his fame in his role as Mark Savage (Dodger) in Channel 4’s Hollyoaks, but Danny Mac truly stole the nation’s hearts when he made it to the final of Strictly Come Dancing.
His next career move was to head to the West End, where he performed in several big productions, such as Wicked and Legally Blonde. This time around, he will be playing Edward Lewis in Pretty Woman: The Musical.
9. Kathy Kiera Clarke in The Dry House
Kathy Kiera Clarke is probably best known for her role playing the hilarious Aunt Sarah in the smash-hit comedy series Derry Girls, which aired on Channel 4. However, that’s not all she’s been in, and some of her other TV appearances include Agatha Christie’s adaptation of The Pale Horse, Take a Girl Like you and Bloodlands.
She has multiple on-stage credits too, and she was nominated for an Irish Film and Television Academy Award (IFTA) for her role in Bloody Sunday. Over the coming months, Clarke will star as Claire in The Dry House at Marylebone Theatre - don’t miss it!
