Glasses which filter blue light are gaining a lot of attention at the moment, not only as a result of the health benefits they bring to the table, but also because they can be adopted without compromising on style.

So what is it about blue light glasses that gives them the edge over conventional lenses, and should you invest in this trend?

Dealing with light sensitivity

Light is vital to the way we experience and interpret the world, yet few people think about how it impacts them on a daily basis, apart perhaps from taking sunglasses with them when the weather outside is fine.

However, it is not just UV rays that can interfere with our eyesight and impact our health more generally; other wavelengths can create disruption. For example, the lenses developed by Axon Optics are designed to help those who suffer from migraines to limit the likelihood of a severe headache occurring as a result of their sensitivity to light.

The other major use of blue light glasses is as a means of minimizing the potentially problematic effects of the light emitted by the screens of smartphones, laptops, TVs and computers. While the blue light created by such devices is not proven to be bad for eye health specifically, it is thought to contribute to disruption of sleep patterns, especially if viewed late at night.

The benefits of blue light glasses are therefore varied, and the growing popularity of lenses which block blue light is certainly being spurred on by our growing understanding of this area.

Turning heads

From a fashion perspective, blue light glasses have arguably even more appeal than standard lenses which are intended to correct the vision of the wearer, if they are long or short sighted.

They are effectively an excuse to wear shades at all times, thus emulating the classic cool of specs intended to deflect UV daylight and giving fashion-conscious people a legitimate, medical reason to keep them on even if they are indoors and out of the sun’s rays.

The fact that lenses that can filter out blue light are available to be made for almost any style of frame, including those produced by the top fashion brands, means that there is a whole world of choice out there. If you want a designer pair of glasses that also have the ability to battle blue light while letting through other wavelengths, this is entirely possible.

Getting help

If you think that you may be in need of blue light glasses to help with migraines and address other eye health issues, it is best to consult a qualified optometrist. They will be able to recommend the right product for you and also provide you with access to all of the frame and lens options you could conceivably want.

Your eyesight is incredibly important, so it makes sense to preserve it wherever possible. Since you can do so without hampering your fashion sense, there is even more reason to see what’s out there.
