About Chef Monica “Mika” Leon:
Monica “Mika” Leon, Owner of Caja Caliente, has spent the better part of the decade working in kitchens across South Florida. Her journey as a chef, restaurant owner, and television personality began humbly with Mika Bites, a wholesale desserts company she launched out of her mother’s garage just after college. With a recently earned business degree in hand and grit and passion to spare, Leon quickly went from home baker to thriving entrepreneur—proving that sweets were only the beginning.
In 2019, Leon put down roots in Coral Gables with the opening of Caja Caliente’s first brick-and-mortar. It was a dream come true for the young chef who brought her family along for this new endeavor. Taking flavor profiles she picked up on her travels through the Mediterranean and combining them with her Cuban family recipes passed down for generations, Leon’s cooking is highly personal. Traditional roast pork and homespun versions of arroz con pollo are featured on the menu alongside whimsical brunch plates and the healthy dishes she shares on her website, www.MikaLeon.com.
Concurrent to work in the restaurant, Leon has been cultivating a growing media career with appearances on the Food Network’s Guy’s Grocery Store Games, Chopped and Beat Bobby Flay, among other television shows. She was a finalist for Eater’s Young Guns awards and has been featured in countless publications, both local and national.

Hispanic Heritage Month is here and what better way to celebrate this special month than with mouth-watering paletas from Paletas Morelia? Paletas Morelia came to life when a group of friends living in Brazil had the opportunity to try the delicious “Mexican paletas” for the first time. The friends loved the large, hand-made, 100 percent natural artisanal popsicles so much that they got inspired and decided to make their own.
The founders chose the name “Morelia” because it is the capital city of the State of Michoacán in México, where it is believed the first paletas originated when people added fresh fruit to the ice to refresh people from the hot weather. Their logo resembles a Mexican Catrina, which is a symbol of the “Day of the Dead” in Mexico, and a tradition full of life. Paletas Morelia is known for its fresh ingredients and an extensive menu of 16 popsicle flavors including pistachio, mango, Belgian chocolate, banana filled with Nutella, and many more!
The shop offers over a million different combinations by adding dippings and toppings to enhance the ice cream experience and take the flavor to the next level with signature crave-worthy toppings are smores, marshmallows fluff torched, and Nutella drizzle. Enjoy the Best Ice Cream Experience with Paletas Morelia for Hispanic Heritage Month!
