Things You Should Know When Getting A Dog

They need a lot of equipment

The first thing you need to do when you want to buy a dog is buy everything you’ll need. Your initial shop for your dog’s items will be expensive and the upkeep of him throughout his life can be a little costly. It is important to be aware of these costs and to prepare for them. Here are some of the things you will need to buy when getting a dog:

    • Collar and lead
    • Food
    • Bowls
    • Worming and flea treatment
    • Insurance
    • Beds
    • Blankets
    • Toys

    They make you more social

One of the positive impacts a dog can have on your life is the ability to make you more social and meet new people. Dog people will often meet other dog people out and about and most of the time you’ll bump into the same people each day. You’ll start to meet and get to know new people and this can be a great way to make friends and become more confident in yourself.

    They need attention

When you bring a dog into your home it is important to know that they need a lot of care and attention. Where a cat might be content going off on their own for most of the day a dog will want to be by your side all of the time. It is important for you to be able to support your dog as they get used to your home but also that you’ll be able to provide enough time and attention in the future. This is why so many dogs adopted in lockdown in 2020 were sent back once people went back to work because they didn’t consider the time required to look after dogs. So, if you are to get a dog make sure you are in a position to provide for them.

    They are energetic

Dogs have tons of energy and even if you have been walking out with them for hours they will likely still have tons of energy to spare if they are young. Dogs can be fun to have around and you’ll notice that yours will be very playful and want to be around you all the time.

Make sure you are prepared for play time with them and if they are very energetic and need some more stimulation you can even consider getting more than one dog so they can keep each other company. Dogs are sociable and like to be around other beings so this could be a good option for you.

    They are curious

Dogs are inquisitive and curious creatures, and anything you leave around the house is fair game for them if they find it. This is why you must never leave things such as cleaning products or knives out on the counters, and be sure to lock these away somewhere your dog cannot reach. Dog proofing the house can be a long winded task but it is something you must do before you bring your dog home.

    They need training

Dogs need to be trained from a young age and it is important to start as soon as possible. Things such as recall are important to learn immediately because when out and about on walks this will be what you use to bring your back when they are off the lead. Now, you will obviously expect some dog training fails over the course of your training, but training can be fun and it can be a great way to spend time with your new dog.

    They need grooming

The breed of dog you get will decide how much grooming they need - but every dog needs some level of grooming to stay healthy and happy. Be sure to groom your dog thoroughly and gather the proper equipment to do this correctly.

Consider these things before you get a dog this year.
