The Importance of Sending Save the Date Cards

Published: Apr 6, 2020 · Modified: Aug 19, 2023 by Jennifer · This post may contain affiliate links · Leave a Comment

You’ve found someone you want to spend the rest of your life with and you and your soon-to-be spouse are officially engaged. The next step is the wedding. With many months of planning ahead, you want to send an announcement to family and friends of the joyous occasion in the future.

Why Send a Save the Date Card

There are many reasons to send a save the date card. First, it lets loved ones know you found that special someone. Second, it gives them the date of the wedding and the venue so that guests can mark their calendar and plan for it well in advance. Let’s face it, it can take you months to find the perfect invitations. By sending the cards, you can take your time and do it right. In addition, some of your family members and friends may need to book a flight and hotel room.

    You’ll Be a Priority

Families plan events throughout the year. By sending the cards early, even if something else is in the works, they can change that date and mark their calendar for your wedding. Without ample notice, many people may not be able to attend. Your wedding is very important to you and you want your family and friends there.

    Official Notice

Some family members, especially in your extended family, may not live nearby so they don’t know your relationship status. The Save the Date card provides an official notice and lets the recipient know that they are on the invite list.

    Reveal the Theme

Your cards give a heads up about your wedding’s theme to your invited guests. Maybe you’re planning a wedding on the beach or in the park where you first met. Or perhaps you want to feel like royalty and go all out in formal attire, from a sparkling diamond necklace to a fitted satin dress.

    A Complete Guest List

One of the hardest parts of the initial wedding plan is the guest list. You want to invite everyone you know to share in your joyous occasion. However, most couples end up having to make difficult decisions and eliminate some people from the wedding reception. By sending save the date cards you already have your list put together. So, when it’s time to send out the invitations, you have the list in hand.

    Informative

Save the date cards offer a great way to include your wedding gift registry, the venue’s name and address and nearby hotels. This will help guests know what you need, where the wedding takes place and allow them to reserve a room in advance.

    Beautiful Keepsake

Save the date cards often contain beautiful photos of you and your future spouse and elegant scriptures. The card makes a wonderful keepsake for family and friends to put away.

    Early Response

Save the date cards are likely to create an enormous response from your family and friends. This will give you an early indication as to how many of them will be able to attend your wedding. As a result, you can make changes to the table seatings and the count so that you don’t pay for guests who will not attend. In addition, you can focus on other parts of the wedding such as the activities, music and setting.

    Get Creative

Save the date cards are the first invite ahead of a formal wedding invitation. Use your imagination and design a card that catches the eye and remains memorable.

Save the date cards provide a wonderful opportunity to get your wedding plans in motion ahead of sending out the invitations. They are a great tool that encourages you to create a guest list early, while also letting loved ones know that you met the person of your dreams.
