Published: Nov 20, 2017 · Modified: Dec 12, 2024 by Jennifer · This post may contain affiliate links · Leave a Comment

Many people head home for the holiday season. It’s a great time to catch up with the family, unwind and enjoy some downtime. However, you have to get to your home town and this can be done by car, plane or train. You can even coach it effortlessly across the country!

Road Trip Through America's Most Uniquely Named Towns

Even if you are not heading home you can take the opportunity to book a road trip, allowing you to visit the places you have always wanted to but never had enough time to. Just be sure to check on the place you are heading, for instance this website will give you plenty of ideas regarding things to do in San Francisco.

You can always try one of these fantastic road trips:

    Oregon

The holiday season is the perfect time to visit Oregon which has been named the Christmas tree capital of the world! Its 137 miles from Portland to Oregon and back again. On the way you can experience Mount Hood as it sits on top of a dormant volcano. You can even get a sleigh ride at Government Camp and experience the amazing lights and music in Oregon on the Christmas Fantasy trail.

Escape the City: New York to Pennsylvania

Once you finished enjoying the shopping experience on 5th Avenue you can head out of town. Your route should take you through the Rockwell countryside and you can experience skiing at Holimont, a private ski resort. You can then drive through the evergreen forest and reach your destination to try pond skating, sledging and a little more skiing.

    Burlington to Jackson

This 142 mile trip will take you from industrial America to the White Mountains where you can imagine seeing Santa Claus and his elves. The snow topped mountains are very popular with skiers and covered in red bridges which stand out from vast distances. On the way you can experience sledging, skiing or just enjoy creating snowmen and snow angels.

    Nevada & Utah

You can enjoy the holiday season in Vegas. But, if you fancy a change of pace, head 244 miles to the Zion National Park. You’ll pass through plenty of deserts on the way. The National Park offers a 6 day snowshoeing hike which is guaranteed to be fun. Of course there will also be a huge New Year party to enjoy.

    Minnesota to Wisconsin

This will be like a journey back in time! Drive from Duluth and you’ll be almost immediately in Wisconsin state. However, the real destination should be the ice caves on the Bayfield Peninsula. If you ever wanted to feel like you’re experiencing the Ice Age or just want to appreciate natures beauty then this is the destination for you.

During the holiday season the ice should be thick enough to be safely walked on and you can experience the caves in their natural state, icicles and all. Of course, you can always squeeze in a little skiing and enjoy the amazing Christmas light display as well.

Where ever you decide to go, take precautions to ensure you are safe and have a fantastic time!
