    I grew up making Rice Krispie treats, they were actually the very first thing I learned to "cook," way back in the late 80s in my middle school home economics class. I remember being so excited to learn to make something myself.

    My mom is a huge cook and baker, so it was such a fun experience to learn to do something like my mom would! Of course, she made Rice Krispie treats all of the time while I was growing up, but for some reason it just felt much more official doing it in a classroom setting with an apron on!

    You know how kids are...their parents can do something a million times, but it doesn't feel "real" until someone outside of the family does it! Ha ha!

    Look at that pretty little dollop of frosting on top, sprinkled with red and blue. It really just couldn't get any cuter than this, folks!

    How to Make this Red White and Blue Rice Krispie Treats Recipe

    Ingredients needed to make these Red White and Blue Rice Krispie Treats: 

    • 3 tablespoons butter, divided
    • 6 cups mini marshmallows, divided
    • 6 cups rice krispie cereal, divided
    • red and blue food coloring -wilton color gels in red and royal blue
    • 1 cup white frosting
    • red white and blue sprinkles

    Directions for making this Red White and Blue Rice Krispie Treats Recipe: 

    Spray an 8x8 baking pan with nonstick cooking spray. Set aside. 

    In a large microwave safe bowl, add butter and marshmallows. Heat on high heat for 60 seconds. Marshmallows will double in size. Stir until butter is melted and marshmallows are combined.

    Add blue food coloring to marshmallows and mix well until evenly colored.

    Add cereal and mix well until color is coated on cereal.

    Press into the pan. Set aside.

    For the white layer, repeat the blue layer directions, omitting the food coloring. Gently press into pan.

    Let set for an hour so set up. Remove from pan and use a sharp knife to cut into 16 squares. 

    Place frosting into a piping bag fitted with a 1M tip.
