Planning The Perfect Night Of Self-Care

With so many of us now suffering from what experts call "crisis fatigue" - you know, absolutely drained from awful daily news - it's more important than ever to practice self-care. But how do you go about Planning The Perfect Night Of Self-Care?

While self-love and mindfulness practices have been in the spotlight for almost a decade now, with the global pandemic, lockdowns, and other current events taking their toll, many of us are too stressed out to even think about taking time to relax.

But, as we all know, when we burn the candle from both ends and don't take that time to pamper ourselves occasionally, our mental and physical health can suffer.

With all this in mind, feel inspired to plan the perfect night of self-care where you can get to a zen place and start the next day on a better page. Let's look at how to plan the night perfectly so you'll start looking and feeling your best in no time.

    Set Yourself Up For Success

You can't do an excellent job without the proper tools, right? Set yourself up for success by setting the tone in your home or room where you want to spend most of your self-care evening. Using aromatherapy through incense, candles, or essential oils in calming fragrances like lavender or geranium is a great start.

Dim the lights and have your favorite show ready to binge. Plan and pick up your favorite foods to indulge in or have a place lined up to deliver food to you. If you have children, ask your spouse to keep the kiddos entertained for the rest of the night or set up a sleepover with grandparents or a trusted friend.

The devil is in the details, so even change your bed sheets so they're crisp and clean when you climb into bed for the night - sleeping better is definitely in the cards for you at the end of the night.

    Self Spa Time

While not every family budget allows for a full-out spa day where you can get all the treatments on your wish list, you can recreate them for a fraction of the cost at home. Prepare for the evening by stocking up on creature comforts like a robe, fuzzy slippers, and plenty of wine (or your favorite non-alcoholic drink that calms you down).

Buy facial and body care products that target areas you want to work on - sugar scrubs for exfoliating your legs and arms, a face mask for red sensitive skin if you deal with it, depuffing under-eye gels, and anything else that you want to address.

Make sure you get magnesium bath salts to soothe your aches and pains, and maybe throw in a bath bomb, fresh herbs, flowers, or some bubble bath. Just indulge and cleanse yourself and wash away any feelings that may be troubling you.

    Honor Your Intuition

Even with the best-laid plans and setting the tone for the evening, you might change your mind on what exactly your heart and body need for self-care—honor where your gut is leading you.

You may have planned to binge-watch Bridgerton with a mud mask on while eating a pizza; perhaps you've now changed your mind and want to go to Target and zone out as you splurge on everything that strikes you. Wherever you're led this time, you've carved out for yourself, follow it.

Keep in mind that the goal is to slow down your mind and focus only on things that bring you peace and make you feel love - so avoid distractions like doom-scrolling the news or social media just because you have the free time to do so.

    Set Boundaries That Stick

As human beings, it can be our nature to want to put ourselves on the backburner for our partners, children, and even work. No matter what happens (barring serious emergencies), do not cancel your self-care evening

. Set the boundary you need this time for yourself and don't give it up. As you get used to doing this, continue the practice weekly and if that doesn't work into your schedule, at least monthly, make a habit of taking care of yourself this way.

Unfortunately, this behavior needs to be planned or worked into busy schedules. Still, we all know that our mental and emotional health suffers without it, which can also lead to our physical health being impacted. Utilize the above-mentioned ways to plan the perfect night of showing yourself the big love you deserve.
