Medical Supplies to Pack When Traveling

Published: Dec 12, 2019 · Modified: Dec 12, 2019 by Jennifer · This post may contain affiliate links · Leave a Comment

If you are planning a trip full of adventure and fun, you always want to be prepared for anything. Traveling is one of the most exciting, yet dangerous, things that a person can do during their life. If you know that you are traveling soon and are going to be away from towns and cities, you should be prepared with everything that you need. You have likely already figured out what clothes and food you will pack, but you also should visit a medical equipment store before you leave.

Here are some medical products that you should always bring with you if you know you are going to be in a secluded place. These things could save your life.

Medical Supplies to Pack When Traveling

    Antiseptics

One of the main things that you should bring when you are traveling to a rural area, or abroad, is antiseptics. Many antiseptics, like alcohol, can be used to disinfect cuts and can help prevent a serious and life-threatening infection from starting. Using a small number of antiseptics can save your life. Using a small amount of hand sanitizer, with at least 60 percent alcohol, can stop the spread of germs and keep your hands clean before eating.

    Water Purification Tablets

You should always research where you are traveling before you start to pack so that you can get a better understanding of what you will need when you travel. Water purification tablets are often needed to help prevent illness if you are traveling to remote areas. You can use a tablet to help cleanse the water and rid it of any parasites before drinking.

    Bandages

One of the best ways to help stop bleeding and keep wounds clean is to use bandages. You should bring a variety of different sized bandages with you on your travels. Small bandages are great for tiny cuts because they can help reduce the risk of infection. You may need a larger sized bandage to help stop bleeding if an unforeseen accident occurs. It is always better to bring more than you need than not enough.

    Hydrocortisone Cream

You should bring a small tube of hydrocortisone cream to help clean wounds. A small cut or a large gash can easily and effectively be cleaned with a small amount of hydrocortisone cream.

    Aloe

If you are traveling to a warm or tropical destination, you should bring sunscreen and aloe. If you get sunburned, you will not only be uncomfortable, but you may notice that your skin peels and cracks. Using aloe to help soothe your skin can help keep you more comfortable and free of infections.

    Gloves

Disposable gloves are a great tool that can serve a variety of different purposes. While you can use gloves for many different things, the main tool that you will use them for is if you need to help a friend or even a stranger. Using a pair of gloves if you are touching someone else’s blood can save your life and prevent the transfer of many unwanted diseases. A pair of disposable gloves may also even save your life if someone is afraid to touch you if you are bleeding.

    Thermometer

A thermometer may seem overrated, but it can help you keep track of your fever. If you notice that you start to feel down, you can track your fever and determine when you need to visit a doctor. Many people will not want to cut their vacation short, but if you have proof that you are sick, because of a thermometer, you may be more inclined to seek help.

    Ibuprofen

Ibuprofen and other over the counter medication should be taken with you if you are headed to a remote or rural area. While these medications may not save your life, they can help you enjoy your time more and help relieve you of any pain that you may be feeling. If you get injured and are hiking back down a mountain to get to town, these pain relievers may give you the strength you need to get home.

While some of these medical products may seem more important than others, they should all be packed in your suitcase or backpack if you are traveling to a remote area. These things can help prevent infections, parasites, further injury, and even death.
