You have always been a career driven person who is passionate about helping people. You have recently be thinking about how you can make the world around you a better place and you are looking for inspiration to carry out good deeds on a daily basis. Whether you are looking to make a career out of it, or simply change the way you treat the people around you, it’s time to make a real difference to society. Practising mindfulness on a regular basis is very important to you and you believe this has allowed you to change your mind-set and become more motivated about helping others. You are not only passionate about helping people through their struggles, but you also want to make a difference to animals and the planet. You see on the news everyday how the beautiful planet earth is under threat due to human activity, so you want to do something about it and make a change for the better. Many people go through these kinds of epiphanies in their life when all of a sudden they want to make a change to the world around them. Perhaps you or a close family member has been through a particularly tough time and you want to help people who are suffering from the same issues. Maybe you want to become a better person and teach those around you to be less selfish in life. You realize that a lot of people around you have it much worse than you, so your goal now is to be positive and do everything you can to make an impactful change on society close to you and the wider world.
Study and Switch Your Career
One really impactful way that you can make a change to the world around you is by changing your career path to something such as criminology. Perhaps you live in an area that has a particularly high crime rate and you want to be able to do something about the happenings going on around you. WLU's Online Criminology BA will prepare you for a career in justice and criminology, giving you a combined Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Policing. The course is completely online and you can complete your coursework to your own schedule. If you need to continue working part time to complete the course then this would be ideal for you, as it will cause minimal disruption to your day to day life. Remember that this industry will always be tough, so you need to work hard and have a thick skin at all times. You will soon start to see the benefits when you start working in the field professionally.
Become a Local Coach or Mentor
Perhaps you wouldn’t mind helping out society as a volunteer in your spare time; you could be settled in your current job and you want to find something to do in your spare time. You could volunteer at a local school to become a counsellor or mentor. There are so many vulnerable children out there who are looking for a guiding hand to help them through their struggles. You could be there to advise them and listen to their problems a couple of days a week. Another option would be to simply help out at a local club or society in your area. Even if you are simply making tea and coffee for the weekly flower arranging club or helping to set up for a charity event your help would be greatly appreciated no matter how small.
Help the Homeless
There will always be people without a home or struggling for a place to live in your area or the surrounding bigger cities. One of the best ways you can help them is volunteering at a soup kitchen. It is tempting to give money to charities for homeless people, but you never know how the resources are being used and it is better to help out first hand. You could always offer your home out to people in need or invite somebody round for Christmas dinner during the holidays. However you can contribute to the homeless crisis will always be very well received from the community.
Assist the Vulnerable
You might not see some of these duties as helping out society, but every small gesture truly goes a long way. If you live next door to somebody who is elderly you should always try and help them out as much as you can. You could volunteer to go out and do their grocery shopping if the weather is cold outside; you could pop in and make a cup of tea in the afternoon so they don’t get lonely. Loneliness is a huge issue surrounding the elderly population so the more you can do to help this problem, the better you will feel and the more you will be appreciated.
Save the Planet
You might be aware how the state of the planet is beginning to dwindle. The overall temperature of the earth is slowly rising and if we don’t do something to nip it in the bud quickly, there will soon be huge consequences to our future generations. Do everything you possible can to reduce your consumption of single use plastic; they cannot be recycled and are clogging up our beautiful oceans. Similarly, you should be trying to conserve as much energy as possible so that your household is not being wasteful. Whether you switch to energy saving light bulbs, install solar panels on your roof or find innovative ways to save water on a daily basis, you will be doing your bit to reduce your carbon footprint. Make sure your local council is aware of the recycling rules in your area; you could probably be doing a lot more to prevent waste in your town so spread the word and start a campaign to make everybody more mindful.
Always Be Kind
Try and be a kinder person on a daily basis; no matter how small your kind gesture is, it will make somebody’s day better overall. Hold the door for somebody who is struggling with their shopping bags, give somebody some change to catch the bus home or buy someone close to you a cup of coffee to put a smile on their face. If you can try and carry out one small and simple good deed on a daily basis you will be making society a much better place. Your small acts of kindness will start to have a knock on effect on the people around you; soon everybody will want to make the world a happier and kinder place to live.
Share Your Experiences
You could start up a support group for people who have been through difficult times in their lives. Sharing your stories and experiences will help people to realise they are not alone. You could have been jobless, been caught for petty crime, experienced addiction or even been abused. Even if you are completely recovered from your experiences your words will help somebody right now who is going through a similar situation. Don’t be afraid to speak out and use this as a platform to help others. Being open and honest will help other people to recover from their life problems.
Be Compassionate To Animals
Making society a better place does not only count towards humans. You should always show compassion to animals in any way you can. Whether you boycott products that have been tested on animals, you turn to a plant-based lifestyle or you help out at an animal shelter, there are so many ways that you can help out the innocent creatures who are suffering at the moment.
You aren’t quite sure where all of this motivation has appeared from, but you quite like the fire that has been lit beneath you. You realise that you only live once and you want to do everything you can to help the people around you. Whether you become a counsellor for a local school, take up a career in policing or try to practice more acts of kindness on a daily basis, you can find your own special way of making a difference to the world. Teaching people around you to be kinder to people, animals and the planet is going to have a positive impact around your local town, wider cities and the country. You don’t have to be a pushy preacher to see a difference; you simply need to be brutally honest everyone. A lot of people shy away from knowing the true facts about the state of the world, so it’s time to make people listen more. People can become ignorant to matters that don’t directly affect them or their families, so learning the art of compassion will help them along the way. There is no harm in giving any of these methods a try; some will be more effective for you than others. The most important thing to do is to keep an open mind and open heart at all times. You will be able to make a positive impact on society as soon as you start making these small changes to your life.
