The rise in the rate of population is a major concern for the former president, Jerry Rawlings. The former president is concerned that this situation might cause social unrest in the country.
Rise in population in Ghana
The total population of Ghana is approximately 29 million as per Ghana news reports. This recent increase in the population of Ghana, might lead to security threats as well as create tension within the country. According to the Ghana Statistical Service statistician, David Kombat, the population of Ghana is approximately 29 million which is a huge increase compared to the previous rate reported to be at 24 million. The former president of Ghana has expressed concerns that this might become a serious area of concern on a permanent basis in their society.
The statistician chief, David Kombat while speaking to the newspaper Ghanaian Times during an interview, said that half of the percentage of population increase is due to increase in young people ranging from 1 to 29 years of age. According to David Kombat, the Ghana Statistical Service wants some immediate steps to be taken to face the challenges that are recently facing the country. He added that, the steps should be taken as soon as possible to control the population rate otherwise this will be a serious issue in the country. To reduce the robbery and murder rate in Ghana, it is necessary to educate people in Ghana and also to enhance the rate of employment in the country. Unless the rate of population is reduced and proper education about sex is provided to the people of Ghana, they will not be able to overcome this problem.
