While in LA for the world premiere of Disney Pixar’s Finding Dory, I went to the set of Disney Channel’s brand new show, Bizaardvark. We got to watch the pilot episode and then meet the cast, which was pretty cool! It's always exciting to meet the cast of up and coming shows before it takes off - and I know this one is bound to be a hit with kids, tweens and teens! It's really cute and also has a great message.
Bizaardvark is a comedy series that showcases the lives of two teenagers, Paige and Frankie, who are best friends and have a following on Vuuugle, which is Bizaardvark's version of YouTube. They’re typical teenagers in that they don’t feel they belong, and their video blogging is their way of sharing their lives with the world and feeling a bit of connectivity.
We sat down with the cast and they told us all about their take on the show, how they got into acting and what their lives are like on the set. The cast includes Jake Paul as Dirk, Olivia Rodrigo as Paige, Madison Hu as Frankie, Ethan Wacker as Bernie and DeVore Ledridge as Amelia. Each character is totally different and brings their own unique personality to the show - this cast has great on-screen chemistry together and you can tell when interacting with them that they're friends off-screen too!
On Identifying With Their Characters
We asked the cast if they related to their Bizaardvark characters in their real lives, and they all had something pretty interesting to day! It's fun to find out that actors are able to do things for work that they enjoy in their personal lives too!
Jake said, “So I make videos, and that’s how I got started in this whole thing, and that is essentially what Dirk is doing on the show.”
Devore said, “I am creative like Amelia, but I don’t dress like she does.”
Ethan said, “I like to think I am more athletic than Bernie, but we are both optimists.”
We wanted to know if anyone aside from Jake were actually active with making videos on their own...
Madison said, “I had a one a long time ago with Minecraft videos.”
“Well, it helps to work with a super famous vlogger,” Ethan said. “Yeah, he gives us really good tips.”
When Disney Channel Stars Give Bloggers Sound Advice
Now, it was kind of funny that we were a group of 25 bloggers and social media influencers sitting there interviewing teens who were making a tv show about social media influencers...you wouldn't really expect them to be able to give you advice that you could apply to your own career, right? WRONG. These are some smart kids, guys!
Jake said, “Find your niche. Be consistent. You can’t post a video and then stop. You need to hit it every week or every few days, based on what you feel comfortable with to create that brand really.”
Now, as we were all adults, it was a little interesting how much we liked the show! We asked the cast why they thought that America should tune into the show....
Olivia said, “it’s a fun show, and it takes you on some great adventures.”
Madison said, “it reminds kids to follow their dreams.” then added “Yeah, you don’t have to be on TV or in Broadway show to express yourself.”
On July 10th, Bizaardvark is switching to its regular time of 8:30 PM, make sure to tune in!
I was invited on the set of Bizaardvark while on an all-expenses paid trip to attend the #FindingDoryEvent.
