6 Women's Essentials for Holiday Travel

Published: Oct 24, 2022 · Modified: Oct 28, 2023 by Jennifer · This post may contain affiliate links · Leave a Comment

The weather is turning colder, and holiday decorations are filling the shelves in any store we enter these days. While you may purchase some of those decorations for your home, chances are, you are part of the 45% percent of Americans who travel elsewhere to celebrate the holidays. Make sure to check out these 6 Women's Essentials for Holiday Travel and make your holiday travels easier than ever before!

Packing for holiday travel can be trickier than a normal getaway as you have to make room in your luggage to accommodate the gifts you're bringing.

Whether driving three hours away for a holiday or flying across the country, keep reading for the essentials every woman needs in her suitcase during holiday travel.

5 Things You Don't Want To Do When Traveling

6 Women's Essentials for Holiday Travel

    Oversized Tote

Though some people may consider getting there half the fun, we're looking for things to make traveling easier for most. One of the best things you can bring is an oversized tote, and use it as your carry-on.

The tote becomes a catch-all for everything from your passport, travel documents, and electronics. It is a good idea to toss a minimal first-aid kit in your tote, especially if you're traveling with young children. And don't forget snacks!

    Light Layers

If you are traveling for the holidays, there is a good chance the place you're going is far enough away that the weather will be different than your hometown. Make sure you stay comfortable by wearing light layers on the plane, train, or car.

Jennifer Travel Tips - 5 Top Spring & Summer Staples

These layers will come in handy when you touch down too. Nothing puts a damper on holiday plans like being too cold or too warm and not having the right clothing for the weather.

Layering lets you go with the flow and enjoy the festivities.

    Toiletries and Tools

The holidays are a time to gather with friends and family and make memories that will last a lifetime. Part of preserving those memories is taking plenty of staged photos and candids.

Make sure you resist the urge to pack like a minimalist and bring all the items that keep you photo-ready, from your makeup bag, professional blow dryer, and hair curlers.

Chances are you will attend some elevated events, like holiday parties and sit-down dinners, so looking your best is essential. You can make room for these items by bringing fewer shoes!

    Practical Gifts

If you are set on carrying all your luggage and want to avoid waiting at the bag pickup altogether, plan this year and purchase gifts that can easily be transported. Gift cards and cash fit perfectly in envelopes, making them a breeze to pack.

Small gifts like jewelry and trinkets are easy to pack; if you carry them on, you do not have to worry about losing them. If you must purchase larger gifts for the season, plan and ship them several days before your trip.

    Protective Products

The holidays occur in the middle of cold and flu season, so protecting yourself in busy airports and train stations is a must. While your loved ones are thrilled that you are coming for a visit, they would rather you not bring viruses with you!

Make sure you have got plenty of disinfecting wipes, hand sanitizer, and masks if they make you more comfortable.

Additionally, it's a good idea to boost your supplement routine before traveling with immune-boosting supplements like Vitamin C and Elderberry.

    Capsule Wardrobe

While it's important to bring at least one high-end outfit to meet the dress code for an event, packing a capsule wardrobe will give you more options on your trip, not to mention reduce decision fatigue.

Pack the clothing you already know you look and feel your best in, and make sure each piece can be worn in multiple ways. Bringing the clothes you normally wear back home is the way to go.

Make sure the light layers you bring are easily interchangeable with the rest of your outfit. Your oversized tote can double as your handbag on the trip as well.

The space you will save in your suitcase can accommodate the gifts and souvenirs you pick up on your trip.

Though the holidays are a magical time of year meant to slow down and make memories with loved ones, they can be stressful for many people. Add to that the stress of trying to plan a trip; it can be overwhelming.

By including the items on your packing list, you'll avoid unnecessary headaches and feel prepared. Happy Holidays and happy trails!
