How To Spend A First-Time Weekend In Key West

As a native South Floridian, it's crazy for one to admit that I have never stayed in Key West overnight. However, this week, I had the pleasure of turning "I have never stayed over night in Key West" into "I LOVE KEY WEST!"

Jennifer was invited to stay at the NYAH (short for 'Not Your Average Hotel') for work and I joined her as a guest, and what a delight it was. It was like walking up to a beautiful B&B.

Once we opened the door, we were greeted by the friendliest staff, in their vibrant, homey and colorful lobby.

When we exited to head to our room, all you saw was pool. I WAS IN HEAVEN!!!! Looking around there was not a room without a view of their pools.

The room made me feel like I was 21 again, bunking with friends! It was fun to reminisce. We each had a "locker" with our own towels, washcloths and cups. And each bed had a USB charging station, outlet and nightlight.

I was convinced, NYAH had thought of everything!

But wait, there's more. They have complimentary breakfast as well as a happy hour in the afternoon with a great selection of drinks at a discounted price and cocktail snacks to get you over that hump between lunch and dinner! Oh NYAH, you've won this girl's heart!

It was finally time to head out to our Danger Sunset Wine Tasting Cruise that we booked. Now, I love wine. Hell, I love most alcohol! I didn't expect the spread that they had. The crew was not only informative about the "rules" of the gorgeously sailboat, but they also knew their wines!!

They came around once we got out on the water, while watching the breathtaking Key West sunset and we sampled an array of wines with some delicious appetizers. So delicious, we were not only tipsy getting off the boat, but stuffed and didn't need to eat dinner.

To believe this was only our first few hours in Key West was crazy! We were just getting started too. I played tourist while my friend knew her way around the whole island.

We hit Duval street many times that weekend. We went to Sloppy Joes - where you'd swear you've been there every night of your life.

Irish Kevin's - where you will laugh your ass off and have amazing Guinness and Jameson (I actually did the Guinness chugging contest!).

The Bull - for THE MOST AMAZING Bloody Mary's at 11 am and all the other local favorites.

You seriously can not go wrong in Key West. No matter if you're a party goer, a foodie, a wine enthusiast, a shopoholic, a historian, or just want to waste away like Jimmy Buffet! I cannot wait for my next trip to Paradise!
