If there is anything in life that I consider myself a bit of an expert on, it would definitely be insomnia. I have suffered from insomnia for most of my life, and I have tried everything from guided sleep meditations to not having a tv in my bedroom to doctor-prescribed sleep medication.
These 5 Tips for a Better Night's Sleep are things that have worked for me over the last year or so - through a pandemic, through having my daughter and a baby move into the house with me, through starting a brand new day job after being self employed for over a decade...
Whatever is causing you to lose sleep, I am sure that at least one or two of these tips will help you!

5 Tips for a Better Night's Sleep
Some things work, some things don't work, some things work for a while and then stop (I am looking at YOU, melatonin!), so what it really boils down to is that I have to constantly be on top of my sleep hygiene and experiment with different things to really maintain a health sleep schedule.
I was (finally) diagnosed with ADHD not too long ago, and I have found that for the most part, now that I am properly medicated for ADHD, I don't struggle with those severe bought of insomnia as frequently as I used to.
But between the new job, the new baby in the house, refinancing my home, a very long and drawn out "break up" with the guy I was seeing for the last few years and a very stressful work environment...let's just say that my sleep has really been effected the last few months.
What does a night of insomnia look like?
I actually had to call out from work two Saturdays in a row because I did not sleep a wink the night before. Oh, I don't mean that I went out and had a wild night and couldn't go to work at 8:30 AM that Saturday morning.
I mean...I went to bed at 9 PM and woke up at 11:30 PM and NEVER FELL BACK ASLEEP.
Or I went to bed at 10 PM, and woke up at midnight and didn't fall back asleep until 6 AM - after getting 3-4 hours of sleep for days in a row.
Write in a Journal Before You Go To Bed
I have been writing ever since I can remember, but I didn't get back into regular old journaling until a few years ago. I keep a nice moleskin notebook on my nightstand and write a little each evening about what is going on in my life.
It is a great way to help clear your mind so that when you lay down for bed, you don't have so many thoughts running through your mind! Incorporate some soothing, healing crystals to really make the most of this relaxing experience. It is truly a great way to wind down for the evening.
Do a Guided Sleep Meditation
I became a certified Reiki Master in 2020, as well as a certified Ho'oponopono practitioner. Meditation, energy healing - all of those things really help to soothe me, mind, body and soul. Of course, you don't need to become certified in anything in order to reap the benefits of these practices! You can find tons of free guided meditations on YouTube; one of my favorites is Michael Sealey.
Try CBD Gummies as a Sleep Aid
One of the hottest products on the market the last few years is CBD - ranging in everything from our lip balm to our bath bombs to sleep aids! I have been using Uncle Bud’s CBD Sleep Gummies for the last few weeks, and it really has made a difference in the overall quality of my sleep.
Unlike with some OTC sleep aids, I do not wake up all groggy. If you've taken sleep aids for any extended period of time, then you know all too well about that dreaded brain fog!
Uncle Bud’s CBD Sleep Gummies are infused with 2mg of melatonin and 25mg of CBD per serving. Uncle Bud's Sleep Gummies are made with 100% Vegan ingredients and have a wonderful strawberry mango flavor. This is great because I used to take 5 mg of melatonin WITH other sleep aids. It's a benefit for me that this is a two-for-one!
Add Uncle Bud’s CBD Sleep Gummies to your nightly wellness routine by taking 1 to 2 gummies before bedtime!
I take 2 usually, and while it doesn't knock me out the way a heavy sleep aid would, it does help me wind down and get sleepy so that I am able to fall asleep much faster than I would without.
I also don't find that I have crazy vivid dreams, as I tend to do with OTC sleep aids.

Invest in a Quality Sleep Mask
You would be surprised how much of a difference a good sleep mask makes in your quality of sleep! There are no distractions because you literally CAN NOT SEE anything around you! Of course, that is on top of the fact that they block out light.
Make Your Bed Your Haven with High Quality Bedding
One thing I have learned over the years is that my quality of sleep is directly related to how nice my bedding is. I don't go all out on expensive mattresses and whatnot, but I do shop sales and make sure that I am sleeping on high quality sheets, pillows, etc.
I use linen spray, I have a pillow topper ON TOP of my pillow top mattress, my sheets are 1800 thread count - when you struggle to sleep as I do, you learn that it is better to sacrifice in other areas of your home to ensure that your bed is a heavenly, comfortable place to be.
Do you struggle with getting a good night's sleep? I would love to hear any tips and tricks you may have to help make the best of our sleep routine!
