It's no secret that cats are amazing creatures. The Egyptians worshiped them, Ernest Hemingway and Abraham Lincoln adored them and I couldn't imagine life without their ridiculous antics and unique personalities entertaining my day.
10 Amazing Cat Facts
Here are 10 more amazing cat facts to make us fall in love with them more - as if they weren't cool enough.
Cats are the most popular pet in the United States: There are 88 million pet cats and 74 million dogs...I can totally believe this because while we have two dogs...we have three cats - and we used to have FIVE cats!
The first year of a cat’s life is equal to the first 15 years of a human life. At 2, a cat is 25 in human years.
And after that, each year of a cat’s life is equal to about 7 human years...that makes Gizmo a little old lady in cat years! It's no wonder she's always sleeping, she's elderly!
Cats can rotate their ears 180 degrees.
The hearing of the average cat is at least five times keener than that of a human adult.
Meows are a random cat language—they developed them to communicate with humans and will often imitate a babies cry when they're hungry.
A cat has been mayor of Talkeetna, Alaska, for 15 years. His name is Stubbs. Sort of inspires you to do something great today doesn't it?
Evidence suggests domesticated cats have been around since 3600 B.C., 2,000 years before Egypt’s pharaohs.
Your cat really does recognize your voice. He just acts too cool to care (probably because they are).
In the 1960s, the CIA tried to turn a cat into a bonafide spy by implanting a microphone into her ear and a radio transmitter at the base of her skull. She somehow survived the surgery but got hit by a taxi on her first mission.
When cats grimace, they are usually “taste-scenting.” They have an extra organ that, with some breathing control, allows the cats to taste-sense the air.
If cats taste-sense the air you can understand why they seem to be such discernible eaters. Some days it seems like they just might turn their nose up at everything. With that in mind, finding the right cat food -that's both nutritious and delicious - can be a challenge.
