Equipment

Ingredients

  • ½ cup all purpose flour
  • ½ cup whole wheat flour
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1-½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons cold butter cubed
  • ¼ cup plus 2 tablespoons half and half
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • cup diced apple peeled and cored
  • coarse sea salt
  • caramel ice cream topping

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400.
  • Add flours, sugar, baking powder and salt in a bowl and mix well. Use a pastry blender to cut butter into coarse crumbs.
  • In a separate small bowl, combine half and half, egg and vanilla and whisk well. Add to dry mixture and mix until just combined. Fold in apples.
  • Place dough onto a floured surface and knead ten times. Dough may be a little sticky, so add additional flour to knead.
  • Shape into a 5" circle about ½" thick. Cut into 4 triangles and place onto an ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 15-20 minutes. Cool until warm and drizzle with caramel topping and sea salt.
