Ingredients

  • 1 pear
  • ¼ cup currants or any red berry
  • ½ cup sweet white wine
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar

Instructions

  • Carefully wash and peel the pears.  Cut off the bottom of the pears to make sure they will sit evenly in the pot while cooking.  You may also use a paring knife to ‘core’ part of the pear from the bottom once the flat cut has been made.  This is not required, simply makes enjoying it that much more enjoyable!
  • Place the pears in the pot with the water, wine and currants.  Sprinkle the maple sugar over the tops of the pears. Cover and let simmer on low for about 30 minutes.
  • Carefully check the softness of the pears from the bottom with a fork (to avoid leaving marks on the sides).  When the pears are tender remove from the pot and let rest on a plate.  Turn up the heat and create a reduction from the remaining liquid.  Strain out the seeds and drizzle over the top of the pears.

Notes

Best when served the same day.
